We are looking at coming south from the Alice in late July along the Stuart H/way and want to have a look at
Rainbow Creek and possibly Chamber's Pillar. I see on the NT parks maps a road/track shown from
Orange Creek
Homestead to the Old South Road. Does anyone know if this is open to traffic as it would save a lot of back tracking? The alternative is to leave
Chambers Pillar as an excuse for another trip.

Gday,
You can go around the back of
Rainbow Valley along the Northern Boundry and then South down the railway rd until you hit the Hugh River Stock Route and follow that across to Maryvale. (closest route)
Or keep going down the Railway rd till You get to Idracowra and head east to the Jump out but you will need (should) get permission first.
Or go straight down the Stuart Highway after you have been to RV and turn up the Maryvale Rd ( Hugh River SR) to Chambers. Yes that is open to public as long as the road isnt closed.
Cheers

Thanks, for that Hairy. It is still very early days in the planing, so I tend to ask in haste, ponder at leisure. As we will be travelling alone, Maryvale road looks like a viable option to put before SWMBO at a later date.
