While we are travelling we will have the need to print and post various items re: our business.
Emails or Faxes are not an option, due to our clients request.
Do Internet Cafes have a facility to hook up our Laptop to their printer.
Our Laptop can connect to various printers with out any problems.
We have a couple of printers in the office but I don't fancy carrying one around on our travels, if there is no other option we will do it.
Cheers

An option is:
Print to a PDF, take on USB flash drive to an office supply store and get them to print it.

With the pdf/usb option versus using an internet cafe printer consider virus protection first and foremost.
We employ a lot of backpackers and it's amazing how many of them tell of horror stories of trying to print stuff off and then getting yucky viruses from the Cafe printer, I guess it's a high traffic ideal area!
With putting your files onto pdf and usb sticks it's minimising your contact, plus you can always scan the usb stick when plugging back into your own computer and if it's damaged in anyway it's relatively cheap to buy replacements.

I have a HP printer in a shelf on the mudguard under the table Cost $59 at Officeworks.
Is light and cheap and will get chucked when ink runs out as is cheaper to buy a new printer than buy new cartridges.
Is very light so that isnt an issue

Yes that's a good option, the printers we have in the office are fairly large.

I would point out that usually, the printers are cheaper than the refill as the cartridges supplied with printers are 10-20% full when compared to replacement cartridges.
In HP's case, they usually supply a xxxxA cartridge which is 10% full, compared to the xxxx cartridge.

LOL!
The ethics of printer mfrs are a bit like drug dealers; the first deal is almost free, then you're hooked and stung with their follow-ups!
Yes, Wokwon, you're right, with HP, the first cartridge is way down on a standard cartridge quantity.
But I see sense in carrying a compact cheap printer which one can throw away when it runs out, esp given the convenience it offers when travelling.
cheers

joc45, yes, and further, because you are travelling, and an ink jet is a complicated mechanical machine, it may not last as long or fail prematurely due to dust or vibration.
So by buying a new one more often, you are probably saving yourself a headache later by reducing the risk that the machine you just bought a new cartridge for died or keeps jamming.

That is so true. Any entry level printer would do the trick. I would buy something depending on what you are printing and how many times before I would recommend something.

I just bought a HP B110a printer for our travels. $79 at Australia Post, it prints, scans an copies and connects wirelessly (as
well as USB) so I can print from Laptop, iPhone or iPad without having to plug in cables.

That would depend on the individual Cafe I suppose. They physically CAN be attached to ANY computer, but they may or may not allow it.
If it's so critical to you, why not purchase a small laser printer that you can take with you?

Daza I got a Canon printer/scanner MP190 from our old mate Hardly Normal a couple of years ago for $48 to use in the van whilst on the road. Light, stored under the bed in its box, and still have it today. Much better option for convenience mate, than the I-Cafe. I have replaced the black cartridge (don't use the colour) several times for about $38 a go.

Gday...
I have been in your position. My first solution was to save my document/s to a USB stick and then go to the library in the 'next' town I stayed in and they usually had no problem or issue in printing out the document/s for me - as long as it is not 20 pages or something.
I eventually decided that the better way to go was to buy a Canon printer/photocopier/scanner (cost $120 on special) which I now carry in the large drawer under the dinette
seat. I have a 2" piece of foam for it to sit on (to save vibration) and 'stuff' around it to stop it moving side to side.
The printer has now done about 10,000km like that and is still performing with no problem (I hope that mongrel Murphy ain't reading this!).
I have found the scanner and photocopier have been more useful than I had originally thought as
well.
Cheers
John

Hi Daza
We don't travel with a printer, and on the rare occasions that we need to print a document, I take it on a USB thumb drive to a public internet access. This is also a lot easier to carry than taking your laptop around town asking who has a public access computer with printer as not all public access computers have printers. In WA we have Community Resource Centres (formerly Telecentres) in most small towns and communities, although in smaller towns they may not be open every day. They are very careful about viruses as computers and internet is their core business. In other states public libraries may offer a similar service, and some have a similar alternative to our Telecentres. However if you need to print a lot of times in would be worth considering taking your own printer as this would save delays as disruptions to your travels.

Hi All
Thank you for your suggestions and information, we picked up a Brother DCP-165C from our stationary supplier this afternoon it's a lot smaller than the ones in the office, it will fit in under the bed in it's carton.
Cheers
