Hi all,
Heading up to FNQ from
Melbourne this week. Was going to do the
Bloomfield track but have discovered that the crossing at
Wujal Wujal is washed out. Is there an alternative route (by 4WD of course) up to
Cooktown.
Does the
CREB track cross the river at the same point? I though it ended up at
Wujal Wujal too.
Happy to hear any tips for great 4WD adventures in FNQ.
Cheers
Stepht

The
CREB track will be closed after the big wet.
The inland highway "Mulligan" via Mt Molloy, Mt Carbine
Lakeland is your best bet.

We did FNQ last year, the Frenchman's track out to Chilli Beach was a highlight, but I imagine the two river crossings will be quite deep now.
We stayed at Loyalty Beach instead of Seisa at the tip - very nice.

Was up there last week , 20/4/11 ,
track closed to all but locals who boat themselves across in order to go shopping in
Mossman.

There is an alternate route around the
Bloomfield crossing, but unless the river is down the crossing up near
roaring meg falls may not be doable anyway.

Thanks everyone for your responses. Looks like we might have to do the
Bloomfield track in its entirety next time we are up there. Was really looking forward to it too.
Cheers

Stephen - if you post an email address I will send you a map extract with an Oziexplorer track overlayed on it that will show you a way around the Bloomfield causeway washout that won't see you missing out on this drive. Of course you can always go vide the bitumen but you know your really don't want to go that way........eh :-)
