G'day we are currently in longreach & will leave tomorrow to stay at Claremont then off to the airlie beach.. I have a 4wd towing a pop top caravan. Has anyone travelled along the alpha to Claremont & Claremont to mackay roads.. Says that these roads are dirt & some warnings but not sure what that really means ?

Thxs don

Don,
Alpha to Cleremont is dirt unless you go via Emerald. Cleremont to Mackay is bitumin with lots of road works at the moment due to the rain.

Sorry I can't help with the condition of the Alpha/Cleremont road.

Have a good one

Alpha to Clermont is usually in pretty bad condition, better to go via Emerald

Alpha to Clermont is a GOOD road and onto Mackay cuts a fair amount of time - nice country, you are travelling so not in a rush.
Stop in Alpha and ask there - they will tell you true. A lot of work has been done on the road. Enjoy going past Mistake Creek School - out in the middle of nowhere and a great school.
Have a good look in Clermont, especially by the Lagoon, head out towards Mackay and stop into Moranbah and have a good look there (say hello to my brother - he's Deputy Mayor) then stop in Nebo and have a good look and a beer at the Pub (say hello to my nephew - he runs it), enjoy the trip down the range looking out at the canefields and the ocean as you go into Mackay.
Enjoy the experience - don't worry about the bitumen (you might be surprised how much is on the Alpha-Clermont road now.
Happy travels and experiences.

Make sure you time your arrival in Alpha for a meal. The pie shop has the best pies and cream buns ANYWHERE!
