Hi Does anyone know if there is any 'free'/roadside style camping around the
Mount Isa region.
There will be 2 cars and 4 of us in swags so anywhere is good. I don't want to
camp in a caravan park as it
ruins the adventure. No facilities is fine too as its only overnight.
thanks

depends on which way you are heading? there is a road side stop about 60klm east of
Mount Isa on the right hand side heading in that has
toilets and ok for caravans and camping.
hope this helps
Dick

That may help for the return journey, but hoping to get to
Cloncurry on the way back

If you have Camps 6 have a look at 309 - Clem Walton Park and Corella
Dam.
65 ks east of Mt Isa or 53 ks west of
Cloncurry.
Signposted - on south side of highway.
Well off the main road so very quiet and peaceful - great for overnight or a couple of days.
Jeff.

Fountain Springs Rest area is a popular place, I have seen it packed with Vans and campers, or just a couple of K's further West you can go into the old town site of Mary Kathleen and park on the tennis court.

While on the subject of Mary K does anyone know what the causeway is like these days, it was breaking away and very rough, last time I was in there 2006 there was a break in the fence just after you turn off the Hwy, that takes you in around past the swimming
pool site and down onto the courts.
