have a 2001 troopy non turbo, thinking about a turbo. have about 30,000 k's and am looking for some more power. anyone have some long term experience with turbos on the 1HZ. i realize all the power increases and performance issues. also which turbo would have a leeser negative effect on the engine life ? regards robert

do a search you'll find a fair bit on this subject, but basically 1HZ's not designed
for turboing and you may have problems with the bottom end. I have non turbo
1HZ and it's a bit sluggish but I don't think I'd turbo it. There's a few other
options but I'll leave that to others to comment on.

Mate, I have a 1991 Series 80 4.2l diesel with approx 210000 kms on the clock and in Jan of this year I had a DTS turbo fitted to it. It was the best decission I ever made (in regards to my car). Performance improved greatly. Keep up the regular serving and oil changes and have the turbo fitted by someone who knows what they are doing and you will have no problems.
Don't be put off by people who haven't done it because they procastonate too much and listen to stories about the mate of a a mate who may have had a problem.
There are a number of good sites to go to for info - www.lcool.org is one.
Best of luck with what ever you decide to do.Everyone is entitled to have an opinion - just make sure that yours is correct.

" ..and listen to stories about the mate of a a mate who may have had a problem. "
that is a problem?? Not all of us own every make and model of car, but have mates with some of the others... If we were rich enough to own every car, we could personally speak about every one of them.. True??
So what option do you have? Spend $10,000,000,000 on one of every car or listen to what has happened to others, or mates of others..

I agree with Karl I have 1993 dx Turboed at 180000 klms now has 247000 Ks and is going great couldnt be happier.
But if you decide to turbo oil changes become very important and as Karl says have fitted by licensed installer.
I have the Safari fitted

Yeah ok I'll accept a kicking for that, it didn't come across as intended
and I won't try and dig my way out of it.
I'm in the bleep now so I'll shut up.
