G'day all,
We are planning a trip through NW Vic, and considering a different route to usual.
Could anyone who has travelled the roads listed below SINCE THE RECENT FLOODS please advise if they are suitable for towing a 'van, or if any road closures / dangers to avoid:
* South from
Walpeup to
Hopetoun, on to Warracknabeal, then east to Donald and
Charlton.
* Alternate route (used before) is Mallee Hwy to
Ouyen, then Calder Hwy to
Charlton.
I have checked the ExplorOz road reports section but could not find waht I was after (and they name local roads that I have no idea where they are), and also checked Vicroads etc.
Many thanks,
glids

Glids,
If you’re talking about the road south through Timberoo and
Patchewollock, that’s all bitumen and OK. Mind you it is a narrow road with a few hills and bends in it so I'd be going nice and slow(I lived at Timberoo for a couple of years). If you’re talking about the dirt tracks through the
Wyperfeld National Park, then you best look at the Parks Victoria website and or ring the
ranger station. I don’t think then flood waters have made it to
Lake Albacutya having been largely absorbed filling
Lake Hindmarsh.
Hopetoun to Warracknabeal is The Henty Highway (B200).
The Borung Hwy from Warracknabeal to
Charlton should be OK by this stage but the VicRoads website will give you something definitive on road closures due to floods. It is not listed in the closure notifications nor is the Patche Road out of Walpie.
Here’s the link;

Thanks Mick.
Yes, we would be taking the Timberoo -
Patchewollock road.
