I have heard a lot of good stories about the DMax as a tow vehicle and am going to have a look at one tomorrow but haven't seen much about them dealing with heavy 4x4ing eg Simpson ,
Cape York would love to hear first hand Please

Hi Carlj ; have they improved the power, not real good for towing big stuff ?. I took a triton 3.2 t/diesel for
test drive , they got some power . I think the triton would be a good tough 4x4 , go anywhere .....

My colorado's done the simpson, parts of the cape, fraser etc etc. Quite frankly I wouldn't class any of the above as 'hard' 4wding. The vehicle does it easy. Head down south to the rutted high country and it'll be found wanting in the wheel travel department, but so will anything with ifs. You'll be looking for lockers if steep hillside stuff is your go.
Mine's auto, tows
well and tours
well. 70000 km on it now, and nil issues. Honest enough for the money you pay.

I think the Dmax is definitely worth a look, hell you've got Nissan releasing a $60k Navara , the class leading Hilux is not far behind that in price. The Triton has the best warranty in the business behind it. End of the day though you still gotta buy the vehicle you PREFER IMO.

HAd a 2009 dmax auto dual cab top of the range , went extremely
well and great on fuel. If your use to constant four wheel drive put a 2 inch lift kit on it helps the thing turn in 4wd at low speed plus a
snorkel and it goes nearly anywhere. Had no probs towing

You will be buying a good reliable car and it can hold its own as a 4x4 if you do the mods - I have 96k on my Rodeo now. It tows my boat OK - 2.5T - Have to watch the temperature in the hot weather but ample power.
You will need
suspension lift if yo intend to do advanced 4x4 - They are just too low and bottom out in soft sand as a standard lift. I added a 3" lift kit to
mine with 245/75/16 tyres that gave another 1"
I also added free wheeling hubs an a Lokka front diff lock - best thing I did - it takes me all the
places I point it :-)
I have a DMAX Ordered to replace my Rodeo - I have ordered it with a heck of a lot of add on's - I expect them to cost as much as the car :-)
Some 4 x 4 below :-)
