Is anyone having issues with a ScanGuage II not initialising after starting the car? I’ve had
mine for about six months, and it used to start fine ( I think), but I noticed it not initialising about two months ago. After a little while I sent it back and they replaced the motherboard (after replicating the fault). I now have a new one – and Day 3 it is doing it again – only once, but I’m losing confidence in it. If I press any of the buttons it starts up, but it’s not recording anything while the display is not active – so that mucks up any fuel or distance records. My brother has the same car, same ScanGuage (and recently replaced too) – car is a 2008 Prado D4D.
Interested whether anyone else has seen this issue, and if so, what sort of car they have.

Mine used to be on a Terracan ( now a Challenger ) and
mine does the same every now and then !!.....I even spied it once being "on", even though the car hadn't been running for hours ..
I only use
mine now for readouts cause since putting a chip in the Challenger it has stuffed up the accuracy of the scangauge ( like I get 3 l/hk towing sometimes !!! )

G'day Tony,
Yep, working with them - they replaced the motherboard..
Interested here just to see whether there are others (who may not have noticed the behaviour) and what vehicles they have

Hi Ivan,
I have a scanguage 2 fitted a 2003 LC100 V8. It went
well for about 12 months and while travelling it suddenly started to give strange readings and then went to gobbledygook, similar to $%#@6(*>"+ etc. Sometimes after restarting the vehicle after a pit stop it would come good for an hour or two and then go into gobbledygook again.
By the time I arrived
home a few weeks later I was getting no display at all. I sent an email to Wooders (where I bought it from) and asked for advise, but my message must have went astray as I have never heard back from them. Which I found strange because they do provide good service.
After a few weeks I then contacted Scangauge in USA (service@linear-logic.com) and got a reply the next day. Unfortunately I didn't save the reply but it went something like this -
"Undo the four screws on the back and gently open the plastic case. Find the flat ribbon like lead with the (white??) connector which plugs into the mother board. Press the connector firmly but not roughly".
I did this, and everything went back to normal and worked fine. This lasted about 6 months and it started to play up again.
I repeated the instructions again and have not had a problem since (about 12months).
I think the problem first time around was that I was a bit tentative and did not press the connector firmly enough.
This may not be your problem but checking the connector may help.
Cheers

Forgot to say that I was also having the initialising problem prior to the unit stopping altogether.

Occasionally i notice the scan guage has not turned on, maybe 1/2 dozen times in the past year. When on it all appears to work fine. Once I spied it all lit up late at night, i opened the door & then the light went out ...... no interior lights were on and door was closed ....... weird .....
Might try checking the plug is firmly in place both on Obi port and internal of the scan guage as suggested.
