My nephew in
Melbourne has just blown his engine in his Navara (3 litre diesel). Is there anyone at Nissan that he can speak to that may be able to help. The vehicle is 5 years old.
I do not want the usual rubbishing 3 litre diesel comments as there have been heaps of posts on this subject before and most of us know the problems, just someone who may be able to help my nephew.
Another one bits the dust!!!!

Isn't 5 years
well outside the warranty period?

Yes, but good manufacturers often come to the party (at least part way) with known problems/defects such as this.

The key word being "Good manufacturer"
If they were any good at manufacturing then these issues would not occur.

If you really want to push it there is an
IMPLIED WARRANTY (ACCC website) on all major items which can extend
well beyond the manufacturer's warranty. In the case of a car, if it has been looked after (service records, and condition of vehicle will help) then a consumer would reasonably expect a motor to last beyond 5 years (assuming 'average mileage and use - heavy towing work etc might reduce the claim). That would often be good enough evidence for some sort of claim or level of recompense.
There must be plenty of info on this particular problem on the web.
Check, see what solutions people got, collate the info then write to the ACCC if Nissan doesn't come up with an offer. Sounds like a class action might have been a goer.
Good luck.

Steve,
I think you'll get what you're looking for a lot quicker if you post the question on the Patrol 4x4
forum.
Mine went at 150K and 5 years.
Patrol 4x4 forum
Good luck with it. Even the cheaper "guilt" motors are all gone these days.

Steve,
Phone Nissan on 1800035035.
You will probably talk to Matilda who is lovely and she will direct you to a Nissan dealer to take the details of the Patrol.
The downside is that you will have to get it there.
Anyways talk to her and explain the situation as she may be able to help with transport.
I have been there a few times over the years.
Cheers
Steve

I believe its a Navara not a Patrol-same engine but oddly without the self destructive history AFAIK?

Amazing isn't it Phil that so many say they have no problems with a fantastic engine. :-))
A quick search shows more than meets the eye.

Haha-I dont have a Navara or Patrol
John, never have or will!
General consensus I thought was that the problems were generally confined to the intercooled Patrol ZD30.
However I now stand corrected and undertake to slag off Navaras with equal enthusiasm as Patrols! :-)

Fish as Phil points out, a simple search can bring
forth a lot of info.
Its not the vehicle, its the engine ZD30 regardless of its form, IE intercooled or not etc.
P.S.
I didn't slag of the vehicle, never have. Just the engine. :-))

yes I did that, but a couple of reports out of the 1000's built doesnt necessarily indicate a problem.
As opposed to the Patrol where does appear to be hundreds of reports.
However its not a concern to me, and if you guys say they are s++t, then I have no reason to disbelieve you!
