We used the Moons book last year. It's a brilliant guide book. Combined with the Hema map it's about all you'll need.
Have a great trip.

Another vote for Ron & Viv Moon's
Kimberley Guide.
Actually they are just releasing a new edition of their guide this week. Just google them and you'll be able to order directly from their office or you can wait to find it in some bookshops.

For history read "Kings in Grass Castles" (Cusack) and "Man Tracks" (Idriess) - the former about a fantastic effort in droving cattle from
Goulburn NSW to the Kununnura district in the 1800s and the establishment there of the cattle industry, and the latter for an insight into indigeneous life there in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
For an appreciation of life in the Kimberleys and the surrounding areas in the early 1900s read Tom Cole's "Hell, West & Crooked".
For more current affairs, including getting around and
places to see read Ron Moon's book available from EO.
All fabulous reads.
In any event, you'll love the Kimberleys, my favourite part of Oz, be sure to visit each of the gorges, they're all different.
Cheers,
DickyBeach

There is a website couple with a book that we have used - very comprehensive, especially as you get emailed updates every so often. Useful to know when roads are open etc. Link is
here

The Email updates are great, as they are from someone living there and current.
Local knowledge and current is the best.

We found the Ron and Viv Moon book the best (from EO bookshop). Pleased to see a new edition coming as it was rather out of date but still very useful. We also had the HEMA publication The
Kimberley Atlas and Guide, which included the HEMA maps plus lots more information. For out of the way
places (we did not find them all) you need to talk to locals willing to share their secrets.
Our trip is outlined in a series of
blogs on MyBlog dated 2008 and on my website

Agree re Moon book. The last couple of times that we have been there, we have used a little booklet that is put out about April/May of every year, by the
Derby Tourist Information Centre. It is usually obtainable from there, and also from the Info Centre in
Kununurra. I think it cost us a couple of dollars last time. Because it is updated each year, just before the season, it has the most up to date info on what is open, what has closed down (things change all the time in the
Kimberley), what types of fuel are available where, gas refills etc. Very useful.
