I was told today that in the Adelaide Advertiser there is a story regarding the local people wanting no more boats on the lake.
Anyone got a paper to confirm this or are they pulling my leg.

Here is a link to an ABC news item. There was also a post on here a week or so ago.

Hi Muffin Man

No one is pulling your leg and it is a real joke. It was talked about the other day on the radio and they said that it could have National ramifications for every body of water and waterways in Australia.

The Traditional Arabunna owners were going to be meeting next week to discuss this matter.

When are we all going to be treated as one people and one nation.

That's my bitch for the day.

Cheers

Hi All and G' Day Stephen,

I have to say "About time it happened". As you know Stephen I worked in the area concerned and it's a real pain in the rear portion when Station owners are contacted to go and pull somebody from Lake Eyre north or south.
Hopefully it will also stop the clever tourist from driving on the lake that happens regularly.

My Thoughts only. Cheers P&J

Australia for Australians sounds like a dream we are loosing Stephen.

Their is so much of this rubbish going on, building up so much resentment.

I meet some people recently who will be back on the lake soon - and I
probably couldn't even outline there response here !

One Australia ? Never going to happen while we have 7 states and territories and lockout or pay to travel or visit system that panders to a minority based on race.

I'll bet the Lake Eyre Yacht Club are real happy about the move.

I must admit that I find it very amusing and annoying at the same time.

As far as I am concerned you would have to talk to the world ended to convince me it would harm a culture to go for a sail on some water.

Thumbs down to those who would appose this.

Lets hope common sense prevails

I have no doubt that once they work out a way to charge for it, their concerns will be eased considerably.

They will probably want to change the name of Lake Eyre to something unpronounceable

On face value such a decision appears petty and designed to purely spoil ones enjoyment of a vast and basically inhabitable piece of space. Not as if the activity of sailing would degrade the lake and as for getting rescued that's an entirely different matter. The subterfuge at work across this country in locking up wide open spaces in such a disjointed and inaccessible manner will only serve to cause more resentment and political backlash when and as the opportunity arises. My sense is the actual indigenous people concerned probably have no objections per se but are being manipulated by others to give effect to such outcomes. There's bound to be a lefty sitting behind all of this manipulating communities who probably deserve better. That's my take.........and I feel better for expressing this frustration!

Funny isn't it ,the locals would not go near the lake as it was though to be haunted or something like that. History being modified for ulterior reasons. Read Cape York a Savage Frontier and see how history has been manipulated.

it is sad, there will be someone or group behind it that really has NO interest in it's welfare but is after the money, "lock" it up and you require permits ($) and any tourism operators the will be asked for "royalitys" and then it gets developed (hand in pocket style) and ends up a big money pit for all the wrong reasons and nothing goes back to the real traditional people .....
I do ask.......... i own land, in order to get "services", roads fixed and graded, access made to it and so on i am asked, actually forced, to pay RATES ....
So why, please tell me, dont the "owners" of all this "locked" up land be made to pay rates, if this was the case i would then feel that everyone is getting a fair deal, the "owners" demand roads, access, services, power and everything else but dont even pay rates on the land, it could be acessed exactly the same as mine is, based on it's "value" and rated accordingally, say for instance Ayres Rock, if the owners that take millions in payments from the tourism where actually made to pay rates for the land that earns them the income, as we are made to do, then would we not be happy to build that road as the cost are finally recovered, and maintain the communitys that reap the benifits from it ....
OK, i am over it now, had me "rant"
Cheers
Joe

Be those who sort the enjoyment of lake should have got permits like everyone else they might not have such a gripe with national parks, some even made loads of money like seagulls they are in for the pickings and then leave with no money or jobs staying locally. I have been near the Warburton and several other desert creeks for 14 years now just in last 2 years flood 3 maybe 4 different groups have gone to lake eyre or cared too so really how many australians are missing out on this decision. You give the traditional owners a voice then when they don't say what you like well I'll be lets have a tantie. Why can't anyone just wait until they have there say before making them out to be wicked wicked people. Maybe it is time to learn respect, we could do without the bonfires this year.

No shortage of respect here I'm afraid, just too many illogical barriers being constructed to frustrate mobility.

I just don't think the traditional owners have been given a chance to speak but instead all over the media a big old winge and they haven't even said no yet. I like how the traditional owners have been accused of taking the money well they might as well because you will find those whinging the most already have their paws out for the tourist dollars at least the traditional owners are locals. Google - tours lake Eyre 2011 and have a look at all the paws who have a piece of Lake Eyre. Really not alot of people boat Lake Eyre and there is still access to the Lake on ground. The only way to see the Lake and all her beauty is to fly otherwise on the water it could be anywhere just a big pond of water but when you put the name Lake Eyre on it it makes loads of money. We gave them a voice let them speak maybe what we see as okay might be disturbing to them, let them speak.
