Hi all - been a member here for about 6 years - and loved every minute of it (apart from getting moderated in the Friday Funnees section occasionally) - anyway - I am now a solo - have been for about 14 months - and on 22 Feb am planning to hitch up the van and head from
Boonah Qld, to Porepunkay Vic, to meet up with some friends - have only ever towed with my husband by my side, so a bit apprehensive, especially with
Cunninghams Gap being in trouble still (on the
Brisbane bound side anyway) .
I am heading down the Newell, hoping to get to Dubbo for first night stop, but may or may not make it that far - if you see me on the road - black Nissan Terrano - 14ft Coromal Cygnet pop top van - Exploroz wheel cover on car - give me a wave, or say g'day if stopped nearby - hopefully this will be the first of many, many trips for me and my little van.

G'day Julie
May your first solo trip be a safe and happy one, and as you mentioned, the first of many!
Take care, I'm sure you will be fine.
Cheers, Dave

Hi Julie,
Its great to see that you have not given in and stopped doing the things you like to do because your circumstances have changed. Enjoy and keep safe..

Well done Julie. I have travelled a fair bit solo with the kids. When we stop at caravan parks we are never short of a hand. Especially when you open the bonnet up to
check things. Its a nice feeling. On our last trip we drove from Qld to
Adelaide and had a wheel come off. There was one truck driver that said on the uhf to others that there is a woman on the side of the road with kids in trouble. He wanted to pull up but couldnt find a spot. I was quick to thank him as I had help coming. On the same trip we stayed at a
free camp about 10ks south of Dubbo called Terramungamine. I was apprehensive at first to fee
camp with out my husband untill we got there.
Enjoy
Sharon

Spent some time with a lady now travelling solo a couple of days ago Julie.
Her setup was a bit of a bitzer actually due to multiple influences but for her things became mcuh easier after she got a little dog which goes everywhere with her even though that does require bending of the odd rule.

Julie,
Knew someone years ago that found herself on her own and went travelling like you. Her first problem was that she felt intimidated on the road by people who beeped and wanted her to travel faster. She eventually developed the self confidence to ignore them and travel at the speed she felt comfortable at.
The only other problem was that she was very good looking and it tended to attract attention that she did not want. She changed her habits to wearing clothing that was less revealing and most of the hassle went away.
Good for you in striking out on your own. I am sure if you are sensible in where you go and stop you will have a great time. The majority of people are good folk and will help where it is really needed.
cheers
