We used the "Red" boat and were extremely satisfied with their service.
It's owned and run by a local family concern.
The "White" boat and most of the accommodation andTouristy stuff in
Strahan is owned and run by an overseas (Malaysian, I think) conglomerate.
I prefer that, as much as possible, any money I spend stays in the local are rather than going into the pockets of an overseas company.

Don't worry....we were there for only 2 weeks and saw nearly everything...sightseeing as opposed to
grey nomad relaxing/touring style !!!!

There is also a big difference in value for the dollar.
The alternative is more expensive but does not appear to offer any more.
However the trip is unreal and to go to Tassy without doing it would be a shame.

Col

I beg to differ Gronk, we were there for two weeks in 2008, and went back for six weeks late 2010 & we still haven't seen everything, the longest time we spent in any single place was three days. Both trips my wife was complaining about not just stopping to relax.
We are not quite
grey nomads yet but looking forward to it in anticipation.
The other thing to keep in mind is the distances in Tassie take far longer to cover than the equivalent on the mainland due to the amount of twisting and turning.
We also would recommend the red boat for the
Gordon river cruise, the service was fantastic.
Happy travelling,
Bruce

I think Gronk is having us on.
Tasmania is an amazing place with so much to see; scenery, history, mountains, waterfalls, high rainfall areas, very low rainfall areas, rich red soil, wonderful fresh produce and good old fashioned friendly people.

Why am I having you on ?????
We only had 2 weeks to see Tassie and we saw nearly all of Tassie in the 2weeks !!!
Sure, 3,4 or6 would have been better, but we only had 2...
We didn't hang around and relax for days on end.....we got stuck into it and visited most major
places...the only
places we missed were Port Aurthur ( been before ) and the west coast road up thru Corina to the top ( still closed after the bushfires ).....this was in 2009..

Hi Dean
We have done the
Gordon River cruise 5 times over the years and can thoroughly recommend it. Our last time we also stopped off and landed on
Sarah Island. If they still do this option, them make sure that you do that cruise and it was a another great part of the trip.
Another great cruise that we also have done and was
well worth it was the Pieman River cruise from
Corinna down to the sea. You will learn of how Alexander Pearce a pastry and pie vendor who had the nickname of "The Pieman" became an escaped convict and ate his fellow escaped convicts companions on more than one escape. That is how that River got its name.
Have a great time.
Cheers
Stephen

Hi Sub, yes the Red boat is the go . I would have to say it was the highlight of our month in Tassie. Value for money it was great, the food was superb and the comentary excellent. They stopped at
Sarah Island for an hour and even took the boat out through Hells
Gate and back. Don't miss out!
Dasher.
