So you want to go up the Dawson Developmental Rd towards Tambo? Or around town.
If you can supply a bit more info and if N Parks, paying or free?

Last year on our way back to Brisbane from Mackay area we stopped overnight on a Saturday night at the Springsure showgrounds. There were two very noisy parties in clubs nearby which went on till about 5am. Just for your info. We also camped early December on the Wuruma dam on the Nagoa but further downstream, it was an excellent free camp, the dam is now at 100%.

About 60 ks out of town a road turns off to the north and crosses the river, there used to be a spot there where we used to stop for a cuppa, not too sure if it is still there or all washed away in the floods.

There is also a rest area between springsure and Rolleston on the Staircase range where you can stop. Lots of big Zamia palms there (Macrozamia moorei)

If you want to be with some water try Lake Nuga Nuga south of Planet Downs, lots and lots of bird life. but check to see if it has dried up enough that they have opened it up, its a bit dicey getting in if it is wet.
