Doug,

Any early indications of where it might hit? I have read North of Townsville?
I have plans to go to Fraser for 2 weeks leaving on Friday but not so sure now?

Your guess is as good as mine at this stage, but I get a gut feeling it might skip over the top of Cape York and we might see some effects here in the Top End.

They are saying Nth of Gladstone, But as it is the size of Qld then I'm sure we will all get some wind and rain from it wherever it lands.

Looked at it earlier and it was pretty scattered, now the latest loop shows a very well defined eye.

I'm with Doug, I think it will skip to the north over the top of the Cape

From that part of the Pacific they usually tend south west then curl away to the south. They rarely go very far north.

G/Day Doug

The Weather Bureau reckons when it hits land it has the capacity to dump 500mm per hour, that's a lot of rain for an area that has already been soaked.

Cheers

If you look at the latest imagery on that site Doug, it nearly looks as it is splitting into two.

Is that possible?

Will it breakup and just fizzle out I wonder?

No. As for the news reporters well unless its Burnsie. The mtsat image is about 2 hours old by the time we get it. Best for anybody that doesn't know what to expect is watch the Bom web site. Tonight it should be in our waters so they will take over from FIji. Anybody in boms warning area should be prepared by now. I'm tipping a Wednesday hit with storm surges. Inland wont miss out either. Lake Eyre will get a top up also from Longreach areas. Don't panic buy. unless you have a genny and fuel for it any fresh stuff will spoil. I'm not sorry if I sound dramatic its how it is.

Now due to hit near Cairns, I think it may sneak a bit South of that, unfortunatly thats over my place :-)

Looks like a monster and if it beats Larry it will not be a lot of fun, thats for sure

Bruce - Ta for that :-)

Do not think it will go away - Its like Larry, Picked its course and here it comes.

This is a big one, so not sure the house will hold up this time, the trees have regrown and will turn back into missiles.

The Coast will be hit hard I would say.

Best of luck to all that are about to face this monster.

Cheers Tony

Doug,
just me looking at the weather patterns, the blow is not going to go anywhere but Qld. There is no high to push it up so all will be good in the topend.

I flew out early and drove Townsville to Mackay to make sure my family is as safe as i can make it be.

I just hope it @$#%s off somewhere else in the world, guess that is optiimistic though.

That's a million dollar question Troll, if it tracks the way they are predicating you should be ok, but even BOM would not bet on it, I would say. Just keep an eye on the BOM site, marine weather SE Qld till then will be your best bet.

I phoned up the rainbow beach EPA office and they are saying based on the info from the emergency management people Fraser should be fine...only issue might be some larger swell. I guess we will know tomorrow or Thursday
