Walked outside on dusk last night and this little ringtail possum was on the ground under the Melaleuca Tree. Released it back into the tree but not sure if it's old enough to fend for itself. Any ideas?

We have them next door.
The neighbour built a possum house and placed it in the tree in his yard and now dad and mum possum live there.
I think we get visits from the kids (possums) on our roof from time to time cause the cat goes crazy and the dog barks her head off.
I also hear them making a racket on the patio roof and have spotted them with a torch and they a very small.
But they seem to be able to look after themselves OK despite the cats and dogs being around.
I would release it back into the trees....is there a bush block near you, a park or reserve?

Thanks. All is good.
Climbed the tree this morning and found the nest with dad in residence and no sign of the mother or baby so they may have been out and about.

Lucky you Richard. Only common brushtails here. A treat seeing the babies riding on mum's back.

Possums have more than one nest, they stay nearest to their last food source. It will be okay and mum will turn up if mum is needed.
