Has anyone had there 4wd trucked from Alice to
Perth and if so how much would i be looking at, yes
mine so it is big ..... or even train if possible ??
Also there have been various posts about other items NOT allowed on the car, i know gas bottles are not, i assume the tool boxes would be and if i lock them can they be loaded ...... what about spares, are they safe, if not safe i would simply buy new spare rims and tyres, cheaper in the long run i guess
Looking at driving to Alice and flying to
perth and driving back, time is a factor and also not keen on long trips any more with 3
young kids, kinda over it if ya know what i mean :-)
Cheers
Joe

Just had a holden colorado dual cab ute and coromal caravan trucked from Alice to
Canberra via Toll all up just under 9K (work paid) due to length and width (would not fit in C Container for train travel). Van was dearer than ute.
Ring Toll and get a price, you may find it cheaper to fly family and you drive by yourself, this is what I did with second car (Prado) from Alice to
Canberra

Joe
We recently had to arrange transport of a car from
Alice Springs to
Sydney for a relative on short notice. Central Australia Removals lined it up. Cost was about $900 for a small car. Not sure about 4WD.
They also moved a house full of furniture on super short notice on a Sunday when we called them. They went out of their way to help and service was excellent.

Good luck.

Hi Joe
We had our Cruiser transported from auction house in
Perth to
Canberra last year - $900. It went from
Perth to
Adelaide on the train, then on back of transporter truck from
Adelaide to
Canberra. Nothing went missing....spare wheels all still there.
With 2 lots of trains (Alice to
Adelaide) then (
Adelaide to
Perth) I would think it wouldnt be too much of a problem....but I agree with post above....why not compare price of puting Mel & the kids on the plane and you drive (base it on ...say 4 days fuel/food/accom-camping for one).

If you pushed it you could drive it in 3 days. If roads OK you can cut through
Kingoonya to Wirulla to save a lot of kms

Another option would be the GCR - others could comment on how quick this could be to drive.

When I've had cars transported, the companies have insisted they be empty of all personal items.
Enjoy

Hey thanks all for the replys, i will foloow up the contacts and see how i go, looking at flight prices it may even work out cheaper for us to go to
Darwin and fly/truck from there, it is about the same from here.....
That is the problem when you have 3 kids it starts getting bldy expensive to fly .....
I think the bus idea is looking better by the year, just dont want to give up my car ..... cant give up the missus n kids, e-bay wont take them :-)

In 2007 wanted to do to do the GRR but did not fancy driving from
Sydney to
Broome and back again. Could not get the vehicle transported to
Darwin with anything in it so defeated the purpose. In the end drove to
Adelaide and put the 4wd on the Ghan and wife and I as passengers and a couple of days later arrived refreshed in
Darwin. Not a cheap exercise but worked for us as time was a factor. Transport on Ghan for the vehicle at that point was $99 but cost us a couple of grand for a sleeper cabin.
Alternative is to ship the gear and the vehicle separately.
