Hi,
Would anyone be prepared to post some recent (ie. mid - late 2010) photos of the
Gunshot Creek (
Cape York) entries/exits on the southern side? We haven't been there for a few years, and am interested to see if they've changed much.

Russler,
This shot was taken from the northern side of
Gunshot Creek in September 2010. We did not attempt to do the crossing but drove around instead, it was a far better drive than attempting to do Gunshots

I am now starting to call it Gunshots Creek because of all the different approaches to the crossing.
The first time I made that crossing was back in 1990 when there was only one way across and the vehicles had to be winched down, we also took all our rubbish with us.

All the above answers are accurate.
I was there three years, every year is different. The "chicken run" in 2010 did not even exist as an alternative in 2010, and in 2008 it was dead easy - I even had the kids have a go
Message is that it will most certainly be very very different in future years again

In my opinion it is only the idiot that goes through the hard track at gunshot - What point are they trying to make?
INHO It is a cleaver 4 x 4 driver that finds the way that takes less stress for the car - Only do the stupid way if it is the only way or to get out of trouble.
Been a lot of vehicles damaged at this location just so some person could prove ,,,
well
Cheers Tony

Thanks all,
It looks like a new 'easy way' has been cut through since 2004. Back then even the 'easy one' was fairly steep (far RHS as you were looking south - it sort of hooked down into the creek). OK going down, but there was no going up without a winch.
