Can anyone please tell me where I can find a spare wheel carrier that utlises the existing tow hitch receiver? Needs to work with GU Patrol so I can carry extra spare wheel in addition to the one that is attached to the barn door.

Thanks

I can think of 2 that that do not replace the existing towbar

the one Powerful 4x4 (click here) make. The picture shown on the website shows one on the 100 series.

The other is Opposite Lock (click here) but I am unsure if the do one for the GU.

I am sure that there is another one, which escapes me at the moment.

The ARB one replaces the tow bar.

Good luck.

Tony!! Did you see the price of the Op Lock 200 series... $3623 .. I suppose they think it you can afford a new 200 series, they will take another grand from you!! Michael

Yep, enough to make your heart skip a beat or 2...

I have the old Kamar single unit. no rear bumper.
Would love a decent rear bar but at these prices.....

Opps I misread the original post... sorry.

I suppose that a converted bicycle rack might do the job?

Would need to move the number plate as well.

I am hesitant to use a converted bike rack due to excessive weight of the wheel and trye (in comparison to a couple of bikes). I suspect travelling across the Gibb River Rd, Simpson Desert and the like would require a robust carrier.

Michael - the picture above does not show the actual carrier unit. Does it attached into the tow hitch and if so where did you get it from?

Thanks

Adey,
Sorry about the pic, its the only one I could find as my external hard drive has crashed with my whole life on it LOL!! It does go into the square hitch. I made this myself for the Simpson this coming winter and still not 100% finished yet. I have roof bars and a roof tent so i have no room for a second spare up top. I'm not sure if you can buy something like this. Michael

I agree. Dont modify a bike rack, they are made of thin tube with mig welds, it will fall apart with corrugations for sure!! Michael

I have seen a swing away for sale in the 4wd action mag that may suit your needs. Usually in a big double page add each month.
