We have purchased our new toy a 06 v8 100 series. I am in a delema now of what tyres to purchase to travel oz. We will mainly be on bitumen but will be travelling up to
Cape York and doing some off road without the van. Can someone that has done the trip with a 100 series offer some advice into which tyre will perform the best.
Many Thanks The Smiths

Any good at Tyre will do preferrably in LT. If it was me I would be going for bridgestone 694s in Lt.Others will nominate their fav brand.

Have done 60,000k with a set of BFG LT AT's
Nearly all towing a van.
Did a few tracks and never got stuck and havent even had a
puncture in any of them yet.
They are not tnoisy and are Ok in the wet and if kept at the right pressures wear
well.

Hi smitty
I have done the round trip plus a lot of other
places towing a 2.5 tonne van, also
Cape York twice I had the standard Grand trecks on, main reason was that was what was on the car from new and also that where ever you are in the outback you can get grandtrecks, not the best tyre but I didn't have any flats.
Currently I have a Prado which I changed tp Bridgestone 694's not lts as the standard tyre will cope with the weight and are a lot better ride than getting lts .
Hope this helps
Regard
Ted

Scrubby.

Hi Scubby,
We run the geolanders as replacement tyres for our hire 4wds. They are a top tyre and I had a hard time deciding on them or the 694s. Interesting they handle better on road then the orinigal hts on luxes especially.

G`day Pete,
I used to run Yokohama Super Digger all the time and the least I got from any set was 85,000 klm but they are no longer available. The Geolander GO12 is supposed to be better.

I think we only get about 60000ks out of them, but you can imagine how they get driven. Interesting the Boss has had a gutfull of d40 Navaras.

I am the same as Ted G, I have a 100 series pulling off road Van 2.5t, Grand tracks on when I purchased it new, never had any problem with them at all, replaced them at 65000kms with Bridgestone 964 lt, another 40,000kms and still not a
puncture, did the
Great Central Road last year, I run then at 38psi all round, but when the Van is on the back 42psi in the rear tyres...........it works for me!

I have the Bridgestone 694 LTs as
well. There aren't too many AT options in 275/65R17 (standard size with the 17" alloys) in LT construction.
I'm happy with
mine so far. Have taken me to the cape and back and a few other trips (nothing major) with no real issues. Not sure on wear yet but seems ok after 20000km or so.
