Avan
I am finding that my current tyres tend to aquaplane when hitting sheets of water, and they still have about 4mm tread.
I have been offered new Bridgestone D840's at $265ea. and ask for comments good or bad about this tyre. Most of the driving is on tar towing a van with a Prado.

Can't help with personal experience Avan but this site
USA Tyre Site is a useful reference point (noting conditions and the place of manufacture are/may be different of course)

I cant help you with the Bridgestones but I have just changed my tyres on the Patrol to Perrelli Scorpions, 16 x 75R16 from my Cooper ATRs which where separating from the steel, very dangerous.
The Coopers had been a real problem in the wet from day one, and would slip all over the place with the smallest amount of water on the road.
It was a real delight to now drive on a set of tyres that hold the road. I feel a hell of a lot safer with the Perrellis rather than the Coopers. I paid $280 each which included values and fitting.
Hope this helps in your choice of tyres.
Patrick

You don't specify what type your current tyres are, but I use Bridgestone Dueller 693's and have not experienced aquaplaning.

"I am finding that my current tyres tend to aquaplane when hitting sheets of water, and they still have about 4mm tread. "
and your wondering why..??.. they are worn out mate for wet weather driving as if they are new with 10-14mm of tread on them.
Treat them as being near worn out...otherwise, do what many do and buy some new shoes for your 4wd.

Hi Avan, I would suggest the grandtreks (
Dunlop) came on the vehicle when you bought it. The 4 mm tread? I would change them for new boots as your tyres are the only thing between you and the road. The new Bridgestone 894's come highly recommended.
