Wow!
I am in total awe after reading this adventure in the Congo. Try NOT to spend half a day reading through this, but I seriously doubt you can stop yourself.

Yeah, I too have saved it to favourites. Only got to page 3 and my overiding thought was why some people in good ol' Oz ask if they should take a gun to travel in the Australian outback (for protection)

Dont really recall how I got hold of it, to be honest I was that mesmerised reading it that I dont recall much from that day, LOL.
I think was just through some random site searching which led me there, and then I was trapped...

There are good trips out there. I found one of an Aussie couple who shipped their Disco from
Perth to Cape Town, then drove it all the way to London. They nearly got shot by rebels at a
road block in Kenya. Bullet holes in the car. Driving through Somalia and Egypt...very interesting indeed. Anyway, many thanks for the post. Mike

Thank you for the link. Great story. Am up to about page 30. The questions it raises about how much gear to take is interesting. Am more inclined to minimal gear as you can't anticipate every contingency.

Good point about the gear to take.......be nice to know what is going to break before you go. Personally apart from tyre mending gear I prefer the usual belts, hoses and some electrical bits and bobs.....oh and a couple of rolls of duct tape, marvellous what can be fixed with that stuff.

Off-track,
Thanks for alerting us to this story. I have found it absolutely fascinating. I read it until 1230 last night and was up to page 45. I have been tired all day today. It certainly puts being bogged for three hours in mud or the
Mitchell Falls road into perspective.
Thanks again,
Bob
