ok two part question..
does anyone know an online source (besides ebay) where i can find cheap parts for my patrol td42?
parts i would be interested in would be mainly ones that are very expensive like the injector pump for example.

now for the 2nd part
91 td42 patrol, how much smoke out of the tailpipe is normal?
seems to blow a bit of smoke when shifting past the first gear so 2nd 3rd 4th 5th while accelerating only. no smoke at idle and i'd say normal at start up.
can't really tell the color just looks like smoke.

and i'll throw this last one in..is it normal on this model to hear the tappets ticking while driving ?

Try emailing craig at NIZZBITS. Always great prices and highly reccomended on the Patrol4X4 website.

I have purchased a few genuine Nissan parts from Nizzbits as well. Nothing as major as an injector pump though.

Good prices, good communication and prompt delivery.

Cheers

A bit of smoke is normal but not usually visible from drivers seat.
If you don't know the colour i can't tell you what it is but from what you described it sounds like fuel smoke. Injectors tested/overhauled is first port of call, unless you know of something else that has been modified.

Just like most older, more "Agricultural" diesels, you will have some visible exhaust emission. I'd suggest nothing to be concerned about.

Highly recommend patrol a part mentioned below

Can't help with the parts supplier but it sounds like your Nissan needs the tappets serviced. They should be done every 80,000km (I think) and they do wear. If the valves are not operating properly then it would be likely to blow a bit of smoke.

I would recommend taking it to a diesel fuel system specialist and have a full service. It won't be cheap but it will be worth it.

yes i actually heard its somewhere around 40 000 kms, any idea how much it costs to adjust the tappets given the usual $100 per hour labour?

No tappets to adjust as they use shims!

TD42 is a push-rod engine, Leroy.. conventional screw & lock-nut adjustment on these..

40,000 km is Nissan's recommended adjustment interval....
