Ch 9 Today Show just had the 4X4 Magazine Editor on claiming the new Jeep is Australias 4x4 of the year, apparently has a new 6 cyl petrol motor that is great on fuel and can compete with diesel motors re fuel saving but has more power ect, it is supposed to be great off road and can raise it's
suspension and extra 150mm when required, also drives like a car he reckons it's not like the other models re: boxes on chassis, and it's in the 50k price bracket.
Cheers

I have always liked the Jeeps for looks and they certainly can be good off roaders but reliability has plagued them for years... I don't think my bank account could suffer a Jeep unless they have fixed a few bug bears up.

hi daza
yes may be o k but i've learnt to take a grain of epson salts with quiet a few of these claims by the magazine media moguls
i have a sneaking suspicion that there is a slipery dollar coming there way for comments made in favour of most of the time ???
wink wink!!!
the other night on-- a c a -there was a bloke with an 09 wrangler and he had taken it back 14 times to get warranty work done and 9 of them to stop the roof leaking
the reporter asked is it fixed now ?
and he said yes they said it wont leak now??
so they splashed some water over the top of it and the water came through
in the usual place???
they were talking about lemons
but i remember my 1979 cherokee it had- ill -fitting panels this is now 2011 have jeep fixed the-- ill--- fitting panel problem ??????????????????????????????????//
cheers

Good ol ACA ....
Always wasting air time with sensationalist drivel .....
The JK doesnt have a roof ... it has a number of removable panels ... and any owner of one that expects a patchwork of components to provide water-proofing instead of weather-proofing ... probably should of bought a different vehicle.
Most of the leaking issues can probably be attributed to owners removing panels and not ensuring clean seals or correct alignment ..... same as back in the day of pulling a 40 series cab off and putting it back on.
Having had an TJ soft top .... jeep ought to be congratulated on the effectiveness of the removable soft & hard tops IMHO .....
Lots of hoo hah in the states about how good the the new grand cherokee is ... use over time will be ultimate
test probably.
.... and your probably right about the magazine award ..... I guess the "real" 4wd manufacturers didnt provide enough "drinkies" during lunch this year ... LOL

hi oztroopy
it was stated that the seals were all replaced by jeep during the 9 return visits still didn't stop the leak
inclined to agree with the patchwork of panels theory and plastic/carbon fibre does flex here and there with the slip-stream currents
cheers

No "real" 4xd manufacturers just "real" 4wd drivers. A patrol was being snatched by a rav4 2 door at
Stockton the other day....who embarrassment as
Kylie would say.

Just returned from over 30K's around Oz with our Jeep Wrangler Rubicon towing our 541 Coromal Pioneer Corvair van. We took both Jeep and van all the way up to
Cape York and along many other dirt roads and trails AND it didnt put a foot wrong, nothing fell off although for all of its life my husband has been concerned that something may
well drop off one day! LOL.
It was only days out of the end of its warranty period (3years) as we headed
home to
Geraldton WA - with over 80,000klms on the clock, alot of which was done hauling our van through the
Pilbara and
Kimberley country. Off road it was unstoppable but up and down the ranges in the eastern states were pretty hard going for it. We loved our Jeep and it stood out everywhere as no-one seems to to vans with them - hmmm I wonder why??? LOL. Anyway, had so much fun that we thought it is time to take the next step and look at buying a new Kedron so the Jeep has to go as we cant tow that weight with a kedron. So it was a tearful goodbye to our old friend and a big Christmas present for my husband as he picked up our new 60th anniversary Landcruiser. We will never be recognized again!
Sorry I ramble -- missing the social life of caravanning around Oz already!
Happy new year all.
Sue

Just got rid of my V8 grand Cherokee for a Prado 150. The jeep never had an engine vibration or flat spot. I should have stayed with the US of A but small fuel tank on the jeep is unforgivable.

We've got an 09 Wrangler Unlimited (diesel, sport). Done 30,000 km since Nov 09 and going great. Have a fairly simple offroad trailer (tare 450kg) and haven't had any worries in sand, etc.
And no leaks in the roof! Being able to drive through the tall timber forests with the roof off is a big plus in our books.
Have it on a 3-year lease, so no too concerned with the longevity of the vehicle but concur with some other posts on this (probably wouldn't purchase one outright for a long term 4WD) until the newer models are proven some more.

Wouldn't touch it Daza and its a lot more than my new Patrol (which now has some love bites).
Actually I couldn't come at any of then - nor do they , reading between the lines , seems more like a shortage of material to me.

A petrol engined 4WD that's more fuel efficient than a comparable diesel 4WD??
I'd like to see that!!
I wonder how it tows and what fuel consumption it gets then??
Didn't see the programme - who was it compared to??
Had a 95 Jeep Cherokee 2.8 CRD and it was great but was just to small for our bigger van so sadly had to trade it.
Jeff.

It isn't Jeff - and if you read between the lines its 11% more efficent than last years model , and as diesels are typically 30% + more efficent than petrols ??
