We have a 16ft Avan pop top and want to know what experience others have had with a/c mounted in the roof.
The other option is a portable unit but have not seen many favourable reports on these in caravans

There is a lightweight version that can go on the roof of the pop top. Friend had one put on and it works fine. Didn't make the top much heavier to erect as far as I know.

Avan

There are a few things you need to consider if this is going to be a retro – fit.

First of all contact the van manufacturer to establish the strength of the roof, or if an ‘H’ frame is suitable.

The other issue is 240v power cabling, and the strength of the supports holding up the roof.

Some time ago Domestic had a unit called the B1900s weighing about 30 Kgs. whilst this doesn’t sound very much; it’s a fair load if the roof wasn’t designed to stand the stress.

My two picks would be Truma or Air Command if I was going down that path.

Be careful and make sure it’s a professional installation.

Cheers

There is a model that mounts on the side/inside at the bottom, we have a lot of Pop-Tops come here with those.

Why didn't you do a search for it as I had to, pretty simple really, but anyhow here's the links.

The truma climaster is a very effective unit. You can stipulate where you want the vents located.
