Fibreglass shower cubicles

Hi all,

We're renovating a stripped caravan and planning on putting in a fibreglass shower cubicle/unit. I've googled extensively but can't seem to find much info on where you get these things?? I've found some fibreglass fabricators, but surely there are places that sell set sizes of shower units that are already pre-made. Looking for Adelaide-based (unless the places you can help me with ship interstate too). The task may be more difficult as I'm looking for one width 600mm, which means I guess that they're definitely designed for rv's, not houses.

Maybe it should be obvious, but I certainly can't seem to find what I'm looking for.

Many thanks

Thanks Kev, this is one place I actually did manage to find. Didn't have quite what I was looking for though. Thanks for your help. :)

Try Darios Caravan Supplies They are not far from the old Mitsi factory in Adelaide

Be aware that mostly to get one into a van you have to remove part of the roof

Cheers Graham. I didn't know about these guys. I have just looked on their website and they actually do have what I'm looking for! Hooray! Slightly more expensive than I was hoping for at $850 for a 600x600mm cubicle, but at least I know where I can get one!

We need to remove some of the walls, so that's why looking into the shower is pretty much first on the list, get it in there before anything else gets done.

Many thanks for your help.

At 600sq you wont be able to bend over if you drop the soap unless you are a midget ROFL

Most showers are at least 800 sq

LOL It's all right, I have very nimble toes. :) I'm nearly a midget at 5ft anyway, though 6ft hubby may not be such a fan of the little box. He'll just have to stick his bum out of the curtain into the toilet area if he drops the soap...or maybe we can use one of those liquid soap dispensers and avoid the possibility altogether!

I'm compromising on shower size to make the triple bunks at least 170cm long, otherwise I'd have to cut them down to 150, and with three growing boys they might not last long!

"Soap on a Rope" solves the problem in those tiny little shower cubes.
We had the same issue in a hired Maui 2 berth motor home.

Just a thought, have you factored in the extra weight of the water storage required (both clean and waste) in your renovations.

Disco.

Try also at Adelaide & Rural Salvage, 283 Hanson Rd, Wingfield: I'm sure I saw a bunch of then there a while back.

Another place I had no idea existed...what a find! They don't list all the details on their website of course but I can see they've got plenty of treasures. Regardless of whether or not they have my shower cubicle, we'll definitely pay them a visit. Who knows what else will come in handy.

Many thanks.

G'day,

You could try Camec as well, they have most things you require to build a van from scratch!!

I am interested in the reno you are doing - what sort of van and what are the plans? Keep a blog of the progress as I am sure I wouldn't be the only person interested.

Cheers

Thanks Ev, I did stumble across the Camec site yesterday. They had some fancy looking bathroom modules but not what I'm after. I'm sure though, as we progress, there'll be LOADS more that they can help us with. Hope their prices are reasonable though - I've noticed that once something is for a caravan it immediately becomes three times the price!

The caravan is a 1980 17ft somethingorother - the brand completely eludes me at present! We got it for $1000 with only a couple of old stinky cupboards in place and the rest stripped - it had been used for storage. We liked it because it has the three triple bunk windows at the back and was basically a blank canvas for us to work with. (Plus, it's all we could afford - we have regular spare income to spend on a renovation, but just no lump sum cash to buy something already done - and we love doing things up anyway)

I will be starting a blog of progress soon, with floor plans, progress photos etc, so keep an eye out. :)

Don't forget fleabay and the trading post either, I check daily when I'm looking for things on both, maybe there's also a place that wreck damaged vans.

Good luck.

I have worked on mining camp transportables and we regularily fit fibreglass shower cubicles. You would be familiar with these found often in some caravan shower blocks where they are using a transportable building.

I believe you can source these from a plumbing outlet. I would say they are heavier than a caravan supplier unit and probably not recommended for adding to a caravan.

Easy to install and a few different styles with different soap holders, position for shower head and taps etc.

Sorry I don't know where the transportable builders sourced their units but you could ring a local building yard and ask.

Have you given any thought to a purpose made in situ unit. You could install your own wall and tray hob , and get a fibreglass/waterproofing installer water proof the unit, then sheet it with acrylic or aluminium sheeting. A floor waste could be fibreglassed in to the formed base tray.
I assume this would be somewhat cheaper than pre-made cubicles which is why most new home builders use this method, they just tile them for simplicity.
That way you could make it any size and shape you wanted.
Otherwise, you could try bathroom shops, but as previously said, they are generally 800 to 900 or bigger.
Cheers

No, I hadn't even thought of it...but now I'm going too! Yeah, that may be an option, especially to get my specific size - I'll look into the costs of that, thanks for your input.

Thanks Kevin, I'll check it out. You're right, they probably would be cheaper than specific rv sellers.

Hi Ayita,

also have a look at marbletrend as they make a variety of shower enclosures and some I think are made for RV's.

We had an ensuite added to our bedroom earlier this year and I spent many hours researching compact bathroom products online. We only had a limited space.

Suggest you also call in and have a chat to your local plumbing/bathroom retailer for brochures and information.

Regards,

Heather
