You can buy fuel from the Catholic Mission petrol station in Kalumburu. BUT it is expensive AFAIR last year 1.98 for unleaded.

Camping at McGowan Island Beach or Honeymoon Bay is around $12pp/pn.
The park at the Mission (in town) is a bit more again.
Don't miss the guided tour of the Mission Museum with Father Anscar.

"good" is not a word usually associated with the road to Kalumburu.

The first half from Mitchell falls turmoff I found to be better than the Mitchell falls road or the Kalumburu road before the MF turnoff.

However ,as the road climbs into the mountain range it becomes very rocky and rough. I was told by a Kalumburu resident that there was no topsoil left near the road for the grader to be able to cover the rocky outcrops .

Having said this low tyre pressures and sensible speed enabled me to get to and from without damage, and I even saw an old 80s van along the road.

We were at Mitchell falls last week. The western end of the Gibb was rain affected with the access closed to Windjana, Bells etc. All are now open.
Due to the rain Drysdale Stn was rationing fuel at 30lts/vehicle at $2/lt!!

The section of Kalumburu Road from the Gibb to @ 40kms North of Drysdale was good. After that well get ready to be shaken. It took us over 2hrs to reach King Edward from Drysdale. The section of Mitchell Plateau Road from King Edward to the Falls (83kms) was another 2 hr drive. The last 14kms from the Warrender Turnoff to the Falls Carpark was the worst however ther DEC were improving it.

Camping at King Edward and Mitchell Falls was $11-00/vehicle park fee and $11-00 per adult/night. to camp.
This was pretty consistent across the whole Gibb as a guide. Be advised all spots were very crowded and the dust was terrible.

I just heard from a friend who has since returned from Mitchell and Kalumburu and back to Broome.They just beat the rain and were in front of about a week, They paid $2.75 a litre for diesel in Kakumburu and Drysdale was $1.99. The road to Mitchell was disgusting. Hope you like corrugations. But he had a great time.

In 2007 there was also diesel available at McGowans at a cheaper rate than from the mission in town.
