G'Day Benno
My swag is an Oz Trail Mitchell I think it's made in China.
Works very well and is used quite often No complaints.

Depends really
Mate has the "rolls Royce" of swags

My own swag is A bourke & Wills Warratah, 12 years old and good too.

I also have a hi density foam, waterproof matt, brought from Clarke rubber, as a ground matt. A little bit of extra comfort for these older bones, and helps protect the PVC base.
I re-waterproofed it, 2-3 years back, with some stuff they do horse rugs with. Just brilliant.

Russell,

Don't like your luck in finding a second hand swag. Not if it's any good that is.
This is one item where cost equals quality and comfort.

Don't worry about whether the swag is made in Australia, China, or Timbucktoo.

I have two Down Under Swags which are made in Adelaide.
They are available at Allingtons near Parafield Airport and they have other brands and models on display. You can actually lay on them to get a feel of the comfort level.
Expect to pay around $350-$400 for the top of the range.

One piece of advice whatever swag you choose.
Select an XL model which gives you extra width.

Best bit of camping gear I ever bought was my 'Down Under Swag' and did get the king size too, which I reckon is a must!
Had it for atleast 10 years, as good a sleep as my own bed!
Did cost $400 at the time, but worth all the money, good canvas, velcro, sandfly mesh, and comfy mattres!
If it wasn't for the acid spill on it, it'd still be as good as the day I got it!

G'day Russell,

Have a look through your phone book, looking for saddlers. Go and see them, and explain what you are looking for in a swag. They should be able to make you one at a reasonable cost.

Mine was made by a saddler in Longreach in 1985 and still going strong.

Regards

If you want a good aussie made swag, try The Jolly Swagman swags from BCF.
I think I paid about $400 for the kingsize.
The quality of the canvas and zippers is superb
When comparing swags ,dont forget to note the thickness of the mattress.

A lot of them come with tent like structures to hold up the canvas.
If you have a car, bike or tree to tie something onto ,that is all you need

I have a Burke and Wills swag.
Really good. I think they are made in Melbourne.
There are other brands a few mates have and the swear by them too.
Look out for good qaulity canvas and alloy poles.
Too many poles to feed through will increase set up time. I've seen guys take 5 or 10 min to set up the ones with the threes poles. Mine has a semi-circular pole at the back only which is enouh to keep the canvas off the face - sets up in a minute.
