Done a bit of a search here and Google trying to get info an fuel economy while towing an Avan; more specifically the lightest model the Sportsliner (tare weight 670kg).
I have a Mitsubishi 4 cylinder auto Outlander and normally average around 9 litters/100kms on country trips.

Based on past experience with a petrol Pajero and 700kg camper trailer, add 30% when heading off for a week or more.
What you forget when you go on these trips your vehicle also has a lot more weight in it compared to what you would have for an overnight country trip. You may also have more people (kids) in it as
well.
You attribute the blow out in consumption entirely to the van, but you forget about all the extra weight you throw in your vehicle as
well.

I have a 4 cylinder 2.0L
Liberty with 4 occupants, fridge and luggage towing a 600-700kg trailer and get somewhere around the 11L/100km mark. Best I have done is 10L/100kms on the
Hay Plains. I get about 8L/100kms without the trailer on a freeway.

Hi
Well I really have to put something into this thread....we own a Sportslinerand tow it with forester. I haven't kept any record, but I do
check on my petrol consumtion at the end of ench trip. I think it would be safe to say I use 10 to 15% more fuel when towing the van.
if there is just the 2 of you it is a great choice

I believe that the smaller the engine the greater the economy difference between solo and towing.
The reason is that more tiome is spent with the foot um flat, and subsequently in the richer open loop part of the fuel injection amp.
