Firstly I do not agree with certain laws under this so called Land Rights business however, if they have to close sites to protect their heritage they have my full backing. It is not always the Aboriginal people who create these closures. ie the closure of fire trails in the Blue mountains in the east and many other areas in W.A. situations where laws have been introduced to protect certain areas. WHITE mans laws.
As far as I can recall [to which I may be wrong] the CSR being a stock route, is open to all peoples. However with the yahoos / yobbos we have in society to-day things could change. Some people seem to think 4WDs can go anywhere with hard tyres etc... and these people do not care what damage and rubbish they leave behind.
"Yea we did the stock route only took 3 days, got bogged 54 times and really churned the track up mate getting up some of those dunes. We great time"
If someone went into your back yard sprayed graffiti over a nice mural you had on a fence that had been painted by a well known artist and chopped down your trees, I am sure you would be jumping up and down like a yo-yo. The same relates to the Calvert Range. Those that have explored the range and looked carefully at some of the paintings would have seen the Tassie tiger and other now extinct species mainland. They are priceless.
As for cutting down trees and other things mentioned in the closure notice.

I could go on.

Nuff said!!

Tony

Hi Lionel

Yes you could say that.
A friend of ours has a property on the coast north of Perth who's fencing is consistently being torn down gates left open [even tho there are signs requesting them be closed] or ripped of their hinges.
Why are these yahoos doing this? - short cut to the beach. They are too lazy to travel another 10k and go down the gravel road.
Anyway he laid a couple of traps and caught them. Wont say what happened or what the traps were anyway there are three vehicles on on the property waiting for their owners.

People like that we don't need. All they had to do is ask permission to go through. Nah to simple.

"Wont say what happened or what the traps were"

Half buried steel spikes are the standard in that area.

No nothing so severe Greg, I do know but have been asked not to say anything. Except it was very ingenious. Looks like being used again in the near future.

mmmn now you have me wondering??? The steel spikes sound a bit barbaric but "just" result in 4 flat tyres (wouldnt like to step/jump on one though).

Cheers
Greg

In every walk of life their is a small percentage of idiots Tony,
we have to not let that spoil it for the rest.

But is that the real reason for closure or are there unstated social
reasons ?

Morning Robin

"or are there unstated social " quote.
No I don't think so. Once things are restored and maybe some fencing we will most probably be allowed back in, in reduced numbers. The Aboriginal community "related" to the Calvert's are quite reasonable blokes. Or were.

Or were is about right - They have the jack with it - one of the big issues is that the calverts have sacred significance for men only and they don't want women to go to the Calvert ranges. The rest of Australia can sustain tourism and can be managed quite well as has been shown.

After speaking with people who have a "Vested Interest" in the area it looks like the area will be closed permanantly as the owners cannot get around the "No Women" problem because of anti discrimination laws.

Yes you are definitely right Indigo, forgot about the men's and women's business.
I heard that they were still trying to solve the problem.

Of course they could have a rest area outside the range for our women while the blokes go site seeing!!! Being facetious of course. He he

Hi Tony,

It would be good to have an open season on ferals, That would eventually eliminate them or at least they should be stopped them from breeding lol.

Cheers Wilko
