G'day all,
I am thinking about adding a roof rack to my 90 series Prado, but which one is the big question. I want it to carry swag, tent etc, but if i could also strap a canoe to it that would be good. I have looked at the rhino racks and like their versatility,ARB and TJM both make good looking racks. Also another crowd called Powerful 4x4 also make one that looks alright.Down the track i would also like to put on an awning. If anyone has experience with these racks and how much difference in fuel economy they cause, any info would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers John.

Hi John

I used to have rhino bars x2 on my disco along with the appropriate fittings for carrying my canoe and paddle and I debated getting another couple of bars and the rhino tray as a roof rack.

I ended up getting a Trackmaster rack (ARB couldn't be bothered sourcing one of theirs) and have been very happy with its installation and capacity to carry.
I fitted a 2.4 awning with the appropriate kit and no issues with installation or performance.

No noticeable difference in fuel economy with either and I drive regional/metro daily.

I've currently got Rhino rack bars but am thinking of getting a wind cheetah one

www.dolium.com.au has more info on them and I'm not affiliated etc etc

I have one of the windcheetah ones on my 100 series. Works well. Survived 10000km Cape/Gulf trip no problems and was loaded heavily. Many other trips as well.
Also low profile so I can still get into 2.1m carparks and don't have to keep taking the rack off the roof after trips.

Two Rhino bars for carrying canoes etc are permanently on my 76 wagon.
I strap them on rather than the quite expensive Rhino fittings.
One roof basket (easily removable) for swags, firewood etc is added only when needed (also easier for car parks at 2.1 mtrs high and a bit more fuel efficient than a full time rack).
All for a bit less $'s than a full on roof rack.
Works well for me.
