After watching that video,
I will definitely be advising my children and grandchildren to give Peddars a Miss.
I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

Cheers Dodg.

Ive been doing that for years,Had them lower my 5.0 Holden a few years back, told them it had to be legal for insurance purposes..When it sagged below the legal height they would not warrant there work....

Midas are no different, when the exhaust blew a hole under warranty would you believe instead of replacement they filled the hole's with silicone until the warranty was void...

They all need a kick up the backsides....

yes I would have thought, I won't use them at all after one botched job on my Camry and niether will my sons. One son had to argue with them when they put different spring rates in his XR6 turbo, in the end, he told them to get the coils out and replace them with the springs he had specified.

Have a good one.

It is sad to see a national company sink to such low tactics.

It seems to be a company policy rather than a few rogue traders.

I would not want to be an honest franchisee after that dumping.

There was an asian women being quoted several thousand for repairs on the TV

it would have been nice to get a second opinion on her car for her.

I am tempted to take my truck in and see what they say :-)

I know everything is new and correct on that !

Old news and been happening for years.
I used to work in a privatesuspension and wheel alignment specialist business and we had a young girl come to us (as did people regularly) in tears with her car she bought for $1500 and the same franchise name of business had told her her car was dangerous and needed $2000 worth of repairs done. This was around 12 years ago.
We checked it out and $70 later she had one new ball joint and a wheel alignment and if my wife saw her kiss me I'd be in big trouble. These people and other known brake specialists I have known for years to over quote on work.
We used to tell customers what we thought needed to be done within the next 6 to 12 months so they could be prepared for it and we never had anyone question when we said it had to be done immediately. get a good rep and you still make a living we were booked out all the time.

Howsey

WHEN I had my workshop they used to run trade nights and show you how to rip people off did not like like their style, so I purchased suspension parts else where when and if required Good year were pretty good at that sort of fear selling

yeah i agree they do beat things up just to get ratings but at the end of the day people who over service to that extent need to be exposed. Like they said they prey on peoples fears and create financial hardship for their victims. I bet they get a commission as well for every sucker they sign up on their finance program.

This has been going on for years, I can name six like businesses in my area that all say they have to get a min. of $800.00 per car to stay alive. A few years back Profix was the bad one( it was called something else then), and before that middas got court. people have short memories and thats why they still get away with it.

cheers.

there was a tyre company in newcastle that starts with the letter J along medcalfe street, an elderly lady went in for some tyres, they said her suspesion was faulty, she rang the mechanic that had replaced the suspension and passed on what was stated. The mechanic said to bringit round for going over, free of charge. No issue was detected. Mechanic gave her the all clear.

If you want good honest service, see bridgestone in Belmont (newcasrle)

Dom's tyre's on the central coast of Nsw

Hornsby tyre and mechanical, on george street hornsby

I have dealt with them on and off for years and they are very good with "No Bull"

my uncle was a tyre fitter for bridgestone outside mackay qld. Plus i have hung round a mechanic with 35 years experience.

if you want a top notch mechanic that calls it straight, go and See Denis at Mcnally smah repairs, carnavon road west gosfrd, nsw.

Yet another current affair 'beat-up' (exagerated story).

I believe that in the case of the $3,000.00 repair job, the owner(s) left their vehicle for a safety check with the instructions that they (Pedders) should repair/replace anything that needed doing. Yes a stupid arrangement to have with an unknown repairer however that's consistent with the limited mechanical knowledge that most drivers have of their vehicle(s).

So this really comes back to the so called value and integrity of the 'authorised checking stations' that provide green, pink, blue, yellow, red, green, black, purple, orange (or whatever colour is appropriate for your State that requires pre-registration checks). If people are having their vehicles inspected annually for registration and in most cases at least once a year for servicing then there would be no need for such 'roadworthiness checks' as in this case.

These 'annual roadworthy checks' are yet another example of the motor traders ripping off the public. No doubt the origins of these annual checks were at the insitence of the motor repair industry.
Motor Traders in SA have been pushing for years for the Govt. to introduce such annual inspections - without success as the Govt is not convinced of such a proposal and the value of contribution to road safety.

So, would you take your vehicle to a repair shop and leave them with the instruction, 'do whatever needs to be done' ?

The collective intellect of this nation could be doubled overnight if people thought for themselves rather than relying on a A Current Affair or Today Tonight for their current affairs information.

As for people who believe for $40 they are going to get a straight answer, see the first half of the first sentence.
