Does anybody have any experience activating the upper set of tail lights on the GU Patrol wagon? They come out standard with the bumper lights active only, is it a simple matter of screwing in a light buld or is it more to do with the wiring? Thankyou in anticipation.

Russell,
They are blanks, there is no wiring either, but there is a plug.
You can buy an overseas kit from some Nissan dealers which has both lights with globes,
orange and white lenses and they plug straight into the existing wiring, I don't know how legal they are in Australia.

THE LIGHTS ARE BLANKS AS YOU SAY. I BOUGHT TWO BULB HOLDERS AND BULBS THEN CUT OUT THE BACK OF THE LIGHTS TO FIT THE HOLDERS, VERY EASY WITH A DRILL, FINISH WITH A FILE.THE WIRING IS JUST EXTENDED UP FROM THE BUMPER LIGHTS.COST $15 ALL UP

Russell. I had a friend who went to a auto electrician who simply fitted bulbs and ran wiring from the bumper bar lights through rubber gromments on the inside underneath panel.Just keep the same colour wires as the current wiring for ease of promblem solving. The GQ nissans are the same and it is one job I am doing as
well.

I have one of the few GQ's factory fitted with both sets of tail lights, 97 RX Turbo Diesel wagon. I hope this answers the legal question for you. I dunno if GU Lenses are the same but if so you may be able to get the bits from Nissan or just run a couple of wires yourself.
