I always get confused when selecting maps
Which has the most detail
1:50,000
1:250
1:400
I take it these are all thousands eg 1:250,000 1:400,000 etc.
What would the most detailed map be for say the
Flinders Ranges.
Told you I was not the brightest bulb in the packet.

Wayne,
The lower the second number, the more detail can be put on the map.
However you may need to carry more maps as the area covered by one map is less.
Put simply in a 1:50000 map, 1cm on the map relates to 500metres on the ground.
Similarly with a 1:250000 map, 1cm on the map is 2.5km on the ground.
A 1:50000 map should always have a bit more detail than a 1:100000 or higher.
Hope this helps.
Disco.

Hi Wayne
The scale of 1:50,000 is a good scale for bush walking, being very detailed, while the 1:250,000 will be fine for moving maps in the car. The most detailed map set that you can get for the Flinders in the 1:50,000 "Flinders Ranges" available on CD that works with Ozi. It is produced by the Department of Environment and
Heritage and should be available from any good mapping
shop that sell maps on CD for Ozi. The only down side is that it is not cheap, around the $150 mark.
Cheers

Hi Wayne
To show you the difference between the two maps on Ozi, below are 2 screen dumps, one of Wilpena area on the 1:250 000 scale and the more detailed map on the scale of 1:50 000. You can now see the 2 and it makes a very easy comprision.
Cheers
