There are plenty of new, portable, 4 stroke, sinewave, inverter generators on E-bay for around $500. They have various brands such as "FujiMicro", "Silent Inverter" and "MachEquipment". Obviously they are cheap copies from China, Korea, etc. but the product descriptions seem OK, especially the "Fujimicro" which claims to have many honda and/or yamaha parts.

I've been considering purchase of one of these. I don't need it to run a computer or TV.
Does anyone have experience with these machines ?

Basically if its not a Yamaha or Honda and to some extent,an Engels,it will be noisy.
If you use it around people who want peace and quiet ,you will incur their wrath.

My 2KVA Invertor Generator from China is not much louded then the Honda/Yamaha and it was $356 has done over 200 hours so unless you have owned one why make a statement about them The problem with you Honda/Yamaha owners is you must have to much money to through away, you should give more to charity and buy a good Chinese one hahahahaha

I agree with Ross

After camping with people running chondas you can tell they are different. More noisey and less reliable.

The chondas will work for a while but the quality of workmanship is just not there.

Yes they are cheaper but eventually you will wish you had dug deeper and purchased a reliable unit in the first place.

Isuzumu,You dont have to own one to know how loud they are. Just looking at the specs will tell you or be unfortunate to have one near you when you are trying to sleep

And by the way ,I dont have a lot of money. I saved up and bought one when I saw them at a good price.
So unless you have knowledge of my financial affairs, which you dont ,why make a statement about them?

As I have stated on this forum previously I have a Chinese (Honda Copy) Generator and here are the facts. Honda 2 = 21KG. Chinese = 31 KG the noise factor Honda 53-57db @ 7 metres. Chinese noise of Lawn mower 64-67db. Honda, I have been told is rated at somewhere between 1600 & 1800 NOT 2000. Chinese lookalike is rated at 3000 but is actually 2800. It has an inverter & has run everything. Stiff titties if I run it during the day.....if it is annoying you I will turn it off or you can blanjk off!! I never run it at night unlike some "Palace" owners who decide to run same all night for the A/Cond, TV,DVD Player, electric blankets etc.....I have had mine three years plus without a problem The number of Factories in China making goods is unbelievable. I mean they are so good they were on a contract to make Australia Military clothes. I read on a forum that the Chinese were so impressed with the 80 series cruiser that a company over there was considering marketing a look a like & ship it world wide especially Australia!!

Thats the problem with noisy generator owners. The person who is offended by the noise has to come and tell you it is offensive.

And by the way ,the chinese have been making an 80 series 2wd 4cyl for some time, and a Prado ,and a Hummer ,and a Kluger

I have two little 1kva chinese inverter gennies. They certainly have nothing on honda in terms of build quality, but so far they seem ok. I have hardly used them though. They are a bit noisy, but I have experience with hondas or yamahas to be able to compare. Except when I was at the toowoomba swap meet a couple of weeks ago I heard a honda before I saw it. Couldn't believe how loud it was.
They seem to produce clean power. I haven't looked at the wave form on an oscilloscope, but a small fan runs just fine on them. By comparison when I run the same fan on my square wave inverter it hums very loudly.
