I just got a new triton 500 gps from the only place that sells them around Lismore area on the north coast of nsw,but they don't know how to connect them to a pc,after spending two days trying I made two phone calls to the agent in Perth both times they said they would ring back, but no call back,my problem is the vantage point disc would not run so I down loaded vantage point from there web site, but it dose not recognise my triton 500,when I looked in device manager it's not showing up there,I've uninstalled and re-installed VP twice and made no difference,I'm running windows vista home premium.please can any one help me it's driving me nuts.

Didnt you post the exact same question a week ago?
I think best practice is to keep that thread going otherwise you may just get same responses from different people, plus it makes it harder when doing a search to find info on a subject if its split up without a need.

Cant help any further with problem, sorry.

Cheers

No worries - I personally don’t give a hoot - the modsquad will however, and if they are consistent will lock this thread as soon as they see it and realise...though if we keep it quiet maybe they wont notice....woops :)

Sympathetic to your cause - it would be frustrating.

It sounds like you do not have the USB driver (or correct USB driver) installed.
Did you use the install disk that came with the GPS, THE VERY FIRST TIME you connected the GPS to the PC?

yes Fred I did use it the first time, but when it would not recognize my triton 500,I un-installed it then the disc would not run when I went to re-install so I down loaded it from there web site.

Hi

VantagePoint includes the required drivers ..so if thats installed then that issue is covered.

I would try:

1. New usb cable - go back to the shop you bougt it from and beg/borrow another to try out.

2. Try on another PC (with new cable) - if that doesnt work the GPS itself may be stuffed. Go back to shop and ask for another to try.

Cheers

In case some one else has the same problem,I got a call from magellan office, they said to try, open device manager click on ports, then plug in gps usb cable,I did so and the device manager recognized it,works fine now with vantage point.
