What type/brand of portable radio do members of the forum take with them when travelling. There are numerous options on E Bay & other sites but quality of sound & more importantly reception is of major concern. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

The range of FM is quite limited. We use car radio in some of the larger towns. When it comes to am when stationary we use the HF radio. Otherwise we use an iPod for music or podcasts.

Good portable radios with AM/FM/SW and SSB inc the Sangean ATS-909 and the Sony 7600.

These are at the top end but can't be beat if you want sensitive portable receivers.

Have a look at thread 74768 - this was discussed quite recently.
