One for the CTEK owners - I just helped a friend install a battery in his Cub camper and we now need to install a CTEK 15 amp charger to charge the battery when at CPs - ( he doesn't free camp !) ..

If I hard wire it in does he have to set it every time he plugs into 240 Volt or does it remember or work out what it is supposed to be doing because it will be permanently attached to the battery ?

I checked the CTEK website and couldn't find anything ...

Any advice by users would be good

Cheers

I would imagine that if he doesn't do "free camping" why does he need a battery charger? or even batteries?

If hes travelling he should be using 12 volt NOT GAS and in a park would be using 240 volt wouldnt he.

Yep - That's why we spent an afternoon fitting a 12 volt 100aH AGM in his camper - up until then he could only run it on 240 volt power at campsites ..

Now he's got about 6 hours of 12 volt power before he needs to plug in and charge up .. hopefully that will be enough travelling time for this guy between stops ...

Mandrake.
I have one on my Tvan. It is plugged into an internal power point and then into on of the 12v outlets. It remembers the last setting and the memory also remembers all the vehicle setting if you have it hard wired into your vehicle's and disconnect your main battery. Works great. Steve. B...

It will retain the last entered settings if unplugged from 240 volt.

So it should default to whatever he has it set for as soon as he plugs it into 240 volt.

Although not permanently installed, what I have done with my CTek 25 Amp, is to cut off the clamps and put an Anderson plug on the charger.

Also have an Anderson Plug on across the battery terminals to connect charger.

I also put an Anderson plug on the clamp wires, so if I need to use it anywhere without Anderson plugs, I can reconnect the clamps. Have only ever used this to help others.

Yes, you can leave the charger connected to the battery all the time, just connect 240V to the charger and it will do it's thing.

Norm,

What did you do with the temperature probe lead with the anderson plugs?

hi all

Reading the instructions informs me that the ctek will remember the settings unplugged. What would like to know is if my 7 amp job can be improved on by having a more powerful charger. The book says the charger is for up to twice the size of my 105 amphour battery so would a 25 amphour ctek push more amps when the battery is near 12 volts?

Recent experience with my old regulated 20amp power supply showed I could move fifteen amps (the amp gauge got ambiguous after ten amps) into the battery but the internal fuse melted. Guess it moved over twenty amps.

I suspect the battery does not llke that much coming in anyway and that is why i bought the ctek.

This brings me to wondering how sus the vehicle supply is considering it can supply something near 100 amps at a regulated 13.8v (about). I read where some of us put an inverter between the vehicle supply and the ctek.

I see it like this; the battery will not take as many amps as one would like when it is near charged up and internal resistance is high. When charge is low and resistance is low, we can damage the battery.

It is not a perfect world

Most caravanners run the Fridge direct from the alternator, using a relay with ignition cut off. No flat batteries, simple The only thing to remember is to switch from 240v (or LPG) to 12v

I have a Projector 15 amp & the 240 lead plugs into a power outlet (240 wet weather socket) inside the front boot. When I hook up the power to the van the Projector has 240 power & does it's job. If I want, I can unplug it from the van & use it else where if I want. This way it is more beneficial & useful than having it permanently wired to your van. Only a thought & suggestion.

Orejap ,

I think you're right there - I'll wire in another 240 volt socket and mount it on the MDF battery box - that way he can use the CTEK elsewhere if needed ...

Thanks to all ..
