fishing nt in october

Got back from that way 2 weeks ago.

We have been there before and camped at Limmen Bite for a week of fishing.If it is fishing you are after you will not be disappointed here, although we fished near the mouth about 30 km away. The camp is basic with a donkey for hot water and pit loos. Very basic supplies there with petrol available, but not sure on diesel.

Next we went to Lorella Springs which we had not been to before. We were surprised to see we were the only ones there when we pulled in and never got crowded while there. Great place with billabongs, hot spring and a bar. No fuel there. We took the 86km journey to the fishing camp, about 4 hours, 12km from the mouth of Rosie Creek. A bit rough in places but not too bad. We towed our 4mt tinny there. Did a bit of damage but well worth the effort. Again if it is fishing you are after it's great although no Barra for us. Plenty of Queenfish can be caught from the bank.

Next was King Ash bay, a great place but not really for us, way too busy. We did not do too well fishing there but peolple with knowledge of the river were catching Barra.

We plan to go again in April when the fishing should be better and do Limmen and Rosie.

I'm at King Ash Bay at the moment. As Daryl said, more people here than the other places, but also a lot more facilities. Power (if you want it), fuel, water, small shop, a bar and bistro.

We camp in the non powered area on the banks of the Macarthur River and enjoy it. The river system is so large here, that even if there are 30 or 40 trailers at the boat ramp, we often don't see another boat on the water once we are a couple of KM from the ramp.

By October there will be a lot less people here, and at the other popular spots. Many head back south in August as the temp up here starts to rise. But, it is Sept and Oct when the fishing (barra) improves as the water warms.

I have not been to Rosie Creek, but I'm told the road is very rough and they charge something like $30 per day to camp there with no facilities. Perhaps Daryl can confirm this.

We will be at KAB till early Oct, when we have to head to Gold Coast for our daughter's wedding.
