Does anyone know how to stop the 30 second beep you get when opening the tailgate of a 200 Land Cruiser, drives me & the neighbours mad.

If you take it to your dealer they should be able to reprogram the ECU to stop the beep.

There are actually two buttons where you open the tailgate, on the LHS is a longer button that should be used to open the tailgate (approx 1 1/2 inch long) and to the right of this is a small round button. The round button actually locks the vehicle.
If you press both buttons accidentally, while you open the tailgate, you also set off the buzzer (its trying to lock the vehicle but the tailgate is open). Only press the LHS rectangular button and you will not get the beeps. Only press the round button when the tailgate is closed and you wish to lock the vehicle.
Cheers
Captain

Wow. For $90k+, you'd think they'd throw in an owner's manual that ought to tell you that ;)

Thanks Captain, I think you have hit the button on the head. Will
check it out
when I pick the vehicle up from being serviced.
You wouldn't know how to stop the beeping when the drivers door is open & the ignition is in assessories ?

Stopping the buzzer with the drivers door open has got a big reward on it - its the Holy Grail on the LCOOL
forum :)
There are many buzzers and options that can be turned off/on by the dealer (some 4 pages of them in the manual) but nobody has figured out how to stop the door open buzzer with the accs on. But any other door doesn't sound the buzzer so easy enough to open any passenger door if you are simply wanting the radio on while stopped.
Some have even gone to the extent of putting a switch on the door button, but this then stops the auto lights off when you turn off the engine and open the door.
For heaps of info on the 200,
check out www.LCOOL.org and go to the 200 section.
Cheers
Captain
