Sun Shade for GP.S

I purchased one of these for my Mio on ebay ~$20

It was a bit of a pain to put on and take off so gave it the flick and now got one of these

GPS Shade

Not as good as it doesnt extend as far out i.e. less shade provided but suits me. Also looks "faster" which is an important consideration in this day and age.

I just use an old cap/hat. Works for me.

We just made one out of Black cardboard and stuck it with double sided tape. Beauty of the cardboard is you can make it as deep as you want for about 50 cents.
The hat idea would work as well I think.

Yep I also have a GPS Shade, works OK....much better than without ofcourse. It also seems to hangon well & is also very easy to remove if required.

If you want, you can extend the visor parts yourself as the hardest part would be to get it to hangon which the GPS Shade does that bit already.

i purchased an A4 sheet of compressed rubber material from the stationary department of one of the $2 type shops. It is about 2mm thick and various colours.I cut it to the shape I wanted and used velcro across the top and down the sides of 'Tom' (he has a personality). Just remove it, fold and place in the carry bag I have for 'him' when not in use or I am not in the vehicle. Works a treat and 'Tom' is a participant in 'Slip, slop, slap (on a hat).

Not running a TOM but a MIO. I found that the dash temps were a little worrying when using the unit (remember I am in FNQ) so I elected to buy an external antenna and mount the MIO out of the sun and heat. After all, you don't really need to see it all the time, mine yaps away from the centre console quite happily

Grab a thermometer sometime and leave it next to your GPS and you will be surprised. I was. I was also surprised that the plastic didn't melt on the unit.

Maybe a cover that shielded the whole unit might be the go?

We use a bit of black shadecloth (from any garden supplier). A couple of thicknesses with velcro sewn on to secure it - allows air circulation for cooling, but cuts out 98% of sunlight.

Mate in leongatha, Vic. has screwed down a thick black plastic can on top of his dash, just above the centre air vents, on his Patrol. From there he has run some silicone around the edges, to tidy it up.
His Older Garmin sits inside the plastic can, and back in about 1"..
As he dosent really care about the asthetics of his vehicle, just something that really works, and the direct sunlight has never touched the unit.

Old Bill dosent care much for the pretty things in life, as long as they work, and works well. (there is a pic of him with me, on my profile)

As he said, the vehicle will probably outlast him.
