Hi all
I recently had my evakool stop working. I had a chat with evakool and they were VERY helpful. they said it was most likely the black box and so we fitted a new one. But no go unfortunaly. The problem is, that the fridge will start some times / many time fine but then will not start at all at other times and just goes to fault.
I will have to get back to evekool on tues but dont want to get a new compressor if its not required.

I thought i had found the issue just after fitting the black box, when i pulled apart the connection where the power enters the fridge and found some freyed wires, but made no diff whe i fixed that iether.

Does any one have any ideas to try before i call evekool again (and propably have to send fridge from vic for expensive compressor)

Kind regards GN

Which error code are you getting?

How big is the wiring between it and the battery?

What sort of plugs are you using on the lead?

Is the battery supplying it in good condition?

Do you have the 240V power supply for it or access to one? If so does the fault also occur on the 240V power supply?

Hi Geoff

error code with 3 flashes

wiring size is pretty big as its running o a loom supplied / installed to run a liemac what has big power requiremnet much more than this unit.

Using 12volt 2 pin polarised plugs

battery only 6 months old and has condition leds on rotronic independant charge system

also faulted on the 240v adaptor

I stiill have a gut feel its not the compressor?

Hi GN,
Gut feel is good most times,

This one, "also faulted on the 240v adaptor" tells me your problem is most likely inside the case of the fridge.

Oh, one more thought, do you use the same cable between the fridge and the 240 adapter as you do between the fridge and the "12V wall outlet" for want of a better term?

It may be a faulty cable or plug if you have a common component on both battery and 240V adapter power.

It doesn't look promising, this is from the Waeco book which "should" be valid for all Danfoss compressors,

Three Flashes
Motor Start Error

If your error light is flashing three times every 5 seconds, the rotor may be blocked or the differential pressure in the refrigeration system is too high or a faulty compressor or faulty control module.

Yep i agree the fault has to be in fridge.
I have replaced the wire from the power supply to the fridge and have bypassed the plug / socket in the side of wall to eliminate that.

so yes have relpaced black box, but what about the switch etc ???? surley they could be als faulty???

wanted to have more of an investigation this evening but bugger would not fault.

Now dont trust it and not sure what to do.

"bugger would not fault."

That is frustrating!

I'll send you an MM to swap email addresses as I've just found a BD35 Danfoss technical document.

It's only 2 pages but it shows the wiring of the compressor and the black box.

Hi Graham,

The only other factor I can think of is heat!

Was the compressor exremely hot when it wouldn't start?

Hi Geoff
yes it was hot, the ambient temp was high 30's to 43 when trying to start up, but this shold not stop it.
the compressor has not been running for a few weeks so was not hotter from running earlier.
also when it did go, it then would not start again the foloowing day.
but still as i said the darn thing will now NOT fault so very difficult to find the cause.

I have found out that even the cooling fan can cause it to fault if the fan is faulty but again cannot try as wont fault.

i talked to evakool and they are looking for a local danfoss repairer to take a look at it.

thanks again GN

Hi Warfer
I have changed fuse to a circuit breaker.
and blew all dust out with air compressor, funny thing was when i did this it went after not starting for a few days and i thoought no way could this have realy fixed it, but then next day went stright to fault again.

Compressor not siezed as since it started faulting it has been running at times? but then will at other time not start / goes straight to fault.
Biggest problem now is that it will NOT fault so how do a find the fault? and so i dont trust it will not let me down when out bush.

not realy sure what do ???
Regards
GN

I would like to know how often a BD35 compressor do fail and if is is reasonably possible then that the compressor may be on the way out and so maybe right to put new compressor in it?
But dont want to do that if they hardly ever fail / wear out and then chances are i am putting a new one in for no good reason and the fault is some other cause???

I read that even faulty fans can cause the electronic box to shut down!

While at home leave it plugged to the 240v for as long as you can,i do with mine just to keep it going instead of leaving it out back for months on end before next trip..

If you hav evakool adapter always make sure its switched to 240v not charge...

Cheers

Hi Warfer
Good idea but i know there is a fault some where and even if it ran for weeks at home i still would be not confident.

I will call evakool tom as they have been VERY VERY helpfull in the past.

If you are in Vic ring Peter Mackay of Oze Fridge. He is up near Shepparton and he carries all the Danfos gear and is a refrigeration Engineer.
It may be cheaper than shipping back to Qld if its out of warranty.

He builds eutectic systems now but has a lot of years of experience under his belt.

Thanks Ian, will check him out as is much closer although freight costs can be unusual at times.
Would be good just to get another opinion from some one who knows their stuff.
I dont have much confidence in local fridge's

With all the stuffing around you hav done GN you may hav inadvertently fixed the issue,i'd let it run at home for a moth or two (putting in a couple of water bottles) to see what happens,Where are you in Vic,i'll giv you a closer Refrigeration Mechanic for Evakool..

Mildura

I am still to see anything that has let me down once, stay fixed without fixing (does that make sence?)

Would be good to have someone local who is up to speed.

Perhaps there is someone, i have had some issues with cool rooms previously and have lost my faith in some of the local so called fridgies'

Thanks Warfer
