G'day all i've got a troopy and the rust that goes with one, the main problem areas is the roof gutter.
I was wondering whats the best methods and products that i should use to repair the problem i don't want to cut and weld as i can see this being quite costly.
Any tips greatly appreciated.

Hi Stephen
being a troopy and 60 series owner only one way to do it

sandblast inner and outer roof
cut out all rust
replace with new metal
treat inner roof with boat 2pac undercoat then under body spray
2pac prime the outside roof with a few good coats
spray in paint

where roof rack or anything else grips the gutter cover with rubber hose or similar dont use silicon

worked on my 60 and troopy when I do rust repairs on mini's or mokes I use a similar method and can guarantee my work

Rusty, I know this is a hard question to answer but what are the ruff costs involved doing this work, also what would the cost of a full spray cost. Are you looking for a job? i'm currently in melbourne where in vic are you

Steve, the other thing that you need to consider is if you have a rollover or even a bad accident you would be much better off with steel holding the vehicle together. Last time I looked body filler (bog) wasn't a structural entity.

Stephen

This is for a botch/bog job, but it works.

Remove all rust from affected area and paint with Killrust or similar.

Place some fine chicken wire or hard gauze in the hole and some hessian over the top.

Now put some Mineral Turps in a bucket and fill it with discarded polystyrene foam and stir till it goes firm but stays fluid. Paint the mix on to the affected area and leave for 24 hours. It will go rock hard.

Sand back area to smooth and paint.

If you are careful you can do a really good job

The alternative is to do the full job and replace the metal

Cheers

Mix ratio is by feel. Just mix it into a fluid consistency.

I forgot to add before...... at end of job you can bog, with body filler, over the work and then sand to get a nice finish.

What model Troopy ?????

40 series or 70 series ???

If its the earlier one, there is a mob on the North Coast QLD still making Qld Tpt approved fibreglass bodies. All available as seperate components.

You can also remove the whole roof and buy the roof complete that is welded inside the gutters from yota.
I had one done on a 1988 75 series years ago due to a dent in the roof.

maybe see if a later model or earlier model is similar and do a cut and shut! especially if it is only the roof. most troopys are similar surely???
