I have an X-trail 2004 /T30 with 60,000Kms which has developed an intermittent fault with the auto transmission. Sometimes, when it is changing gear the transmission thumps instead of changing smoothly. It may do this consistently for 3 or 4 changes, and then not do it for days.
Any ideas?

I had the same problem and it was fixed when we replaced the battery for a slightly larger one. Our is the same year and model.

Yeah and just for further info we put a Centry NS70L battery in it, it is a tight squeeze but it fits and cured the problem.

Hi Kev probably a stupid question but why/how does battery affect this. Is it some thing to do with the electronics not getting enough power or some thing to the like ?? I have had this with the prado as
well. Not as super smooth as I think it should be but same thing not all the time just now and then seems to have a bit of a thump between 2nd and 3rd not real bad but just not real smooth. Have never had it serviced but did adjust kick down cable couple of weeks ago but didnt make any difference. Regards Steve M

Steve,
NFI but it fixed the clunking when it changed up the gears. It might be something electronic in the selector??
The battery was pretty RS so who knows.
Cheers Kev

Stephen,
slip it over to marko (spelling) near the MG place. I found him to do a good job with the sahara's auto a few years ago.
