You may want to get in touch with the
Cook caretakers, Jan and Ivor Holberton. I'm sorry I don't have any contact numbers. Jan has been preserving the history of
Cook for many years, and has set up a museum for visitors (mostly people off the trains). The museum used to be in the old school, but they moved it to the railway.
I've got photos from the past 6 years, which I am happy to email to you, or simply post on this thread.

You could contact the Bush Church Aid Society - Level 7, 37
York Street,
Sydney 2000 or
Bush Church Aid Society.
They operated the hospital at
Cook for years and ran a Flying Doctor service in the area till they eventually handed over to RFDS. Their archivist may be able to give you some info. They are an Anglican Church organisation that has been "out there" since 1919.

Didn't say much about the history of the town, but the link to the interview with Jan was good.
The town on that railway line with a heap of history is
Ooldea.

G'day Dennis B,
You aren't my brother are you? He is up in the territory at the moment, but he should know about
Cook as we use to live there as kids. The old man was a engine driver and back in the '50's when they had steam engines, they had relief drivers at
Tarcoola,
Cook and Rawlina.
I don't have a lot of info on hand at the moment, but if you really want in depth info and perhaps some photos I took on a recent visit, let me know by MM. There is not a lot there now, the old school, 6 or 8 houses, the drivers rest house and the old station and store. All the other houses and recently the hospital were removed. Anyway, if I can help let me know.
Regards,
Peter (1)
