Gents,
I'm looking into buying a genset for farm use, for ruining cement mixers, power tools and maybe a welder. WJWatson advertise in the trading post fairly cheap new gensets. Has anyone on here had any experience with their products. I do plan to ring them but some on here have large acreage and might have some knowledge on them.

Cheers Drew

Drew, I'd never heard of them. From their website, it tells me nothing other than their products are imported, cheap, and i have no idea where the distributor operates from. Should you have a problem with their products, you probably won't find them either.

Doug & Motherhen,
Thanks for your replies, i thought they would be Chinese. Just thought for something that doesn't get a lot of use it may be alright, but sure as eggs it will sit in the shed then when I need it, it won't start. Anyway thanks for the input.

Hi Drewab,

I was in the same situation as you about 4 years ago.
I needed a good generator for hobby farm for fencing etc away from home.
I thought about the cheap Chinese imports but in the end went for a good second hand Honda powered one.
Mine is Allight 6000B powered by Honda petrol engine. (I think they are made in WA).
It is total 24 amps with dual 15 amp plugs, 6KVA
It cost me as much s/h as new Chinese one but has never missed a beat. Electric start first time.
It is a heavy duty unit encased in a yellow steel casing on steel castors with a lifting lug on top - weighs about 300kg. Need a lifting device to put it on trailer or truck.
It can run a compressor for nail gun, power drill, power saws, welder etc. Or when we lost power from storm we run large household fridge, a large freezer plus lights etc. for a couple of hours.
My advice is get a reputable brand and you won't be
disappointed..
Cheers,
Glen

Glen,
Thanks for your reply. I tried researching Allight and found 1 in NSW on ebay, might have sit back and wait and get something closer.I have looked at a 4.5kva genset from a guy I work with. It's a powermate powered by a 9hp Honda engine, it seems ok. I was talking to a sparky at work and he said to run an inverter type stick welder which I have you should get a least 6kva or you can bugger the card. Anyway thanks again looks like Chinese is off the list.

Drew,
I was told basically the same thing - need 6KVA.
Also if you want to run a compressor they take a lot of power when they cut in (mine 13 only a 13cft). I don't think anything less than 6KVA would do the job on a farm for power tools, welding etc,
Good luck in your search,
Cheers,
Glen
