Hi guys, i am looking at purchasing a 2kva generator before easter. Can anyone advise me what brand i am best to go with? is it the yamaha or honda. I like the yamaha because is it 2.4kva compared with 2kva for the honda.
Any advice would be appreciated.

thanks
Brett

Brett,

I have just gone through the exercise of Honda v Yamaha, read all the specs I could find, viewed both genny's working side by side and I reckon it is 6 of one and half a dozen of the other, there is very little difference between the two (others may disagree) so I went for the Yammy, reason being, in the end the Yammy dealers were prepared to talk about the price, the Honda dealers it was take it or leave it, so I left it and went Yammy, 1 week later very happy with my choice.

Good luck with your choice.

Brett,

check the specs again against your requirement.
2kva and 2.4kva are not what they seem.

Those are peak surge load capabilities, and not continuous output.

Best to confirm the standard output is suitable for your requirement and then quote model numbers (funnily enough they have those numbers in them)

Also:
The Yamaha is much bigger and a little heavier than the Honda, but does have a heavier, (probably) stronger, slower revving motor as the reason.

The latter point may be a justification for choosing the Yamaha, but the size and weight are also a significant decision point.

The Honda is a single hand lift with the handle in the middle and the Yamaha is a two hand lift because of its casing design. Not so easy to stumble around the bush in the dark without being able to see your feet.

I decided I could handle the Honda in one hand and a jerry of fuel in the other, but you would have to make two trips with the Yamaha, and resting that weight on my belly in a two handed lift would cause me to suggest the missus moves it occasionally. lol.

I reckon in terms of quality they are much the same. Both excellent products. I think Honda has more outlets, so service (if required) might be a bit easier. Honda has 4 year warranty as standard ( got an extended warranty for another year as part of the deal). Not sure what Yamaha is these days.
When I was buying, size and weight were important and Honda dealer was prepared to negotiate. Also Honda had a $200 cash back offer at the time. I believe they have that deal on offer at the moment as well.

End result is I have a Honda and am happy with it. But as I said at the start, there is nothing between them in terms of quality IMO.

There's a story that the inverters on the yammy are a lot cheaper to fix if they break

Well it is a hard decision, but at the end of the day, i believe i will only need 2 kva, so the lighter and quieter and maybe more efficient honda might just be the one to go for.
Thanks for your help guys.

Hello, have had a yamaha 2400 for about 2 years absolutely no problems what so ever. Can run continuosly for about 9 hours before refueling (running tv, caravan lights, outside lights etc).
