Morning all!
Navman are running a trade-in at the moment, so you can trade-up to one of their S series machines (supposedly for the price of a map upgrade!)
I inherited a Navman icn 520 from my son recently and was very disappointed that I couln't update the maps in it, especially as the unit cost nearly $1000!
I'd welcome comments from the
forum as to whether these upgrades are worthwhile.
Is the S series any good?
Is there one particular model that stands out eg S50 or S80?
Are the upgrade prices reasonable?

If you haven't already done so, have a look at their web site for all the details

DIO,
Thanks for the direction but I had already been there - that's how I knew about the trade-up!
I'd still like to know whether they are any good though - I am afraid I don't trust the b*** that companies use to describe their products - they usually have rose coloured glasses on. Much rather rely on hard won experience, hence my original post!

Dont know what the prices for maps for the new series are but I bought a set of Australian maps for a 520 last year and they cost me $250AU in the UK and were cheaper than buying from Navman direct.
Also the maps have to be initialised through the website to a particular unit and then wont work on any other unit.
Whereas Tom Tom maps can be upgraded by changing the map file on the card and if you know where to look are free( naughty naughty I know)

I think you are right,
I just rang them and ask if I could trade in my 510, which is not working after I dropped it, deal still stands, trade the 510 on a S30 for $179, gotta be a good outcome.

I'd go one better than that and get a Lowrance IWAY 600c. I move my LMS 525cdf out of the boat into the car, mind you I get a bit worried when you are driving in 5 metres of water according to the Navionic charts but! LOL

I traded a iCN 635 for a S 50 as per Navman's special offer. The options are good but the screen cannot be read clearly in normal daylight dash mount. Screen washes out. Have contacted Navman but as yet no solution.
