We are travelling this way in June /July and had heard that there is a sea freight service that goes from
Karumba to
Weipa that will take car/trailer and passengers. I cant seem to find out anything about who does it though. Does anyone know or have any comments about this idea?

There's a Company in
Cairns called SEASWIFT that does all the Sea frieght to the Cape. I know they go to Seasia and
Weipa. Maybe they are the ones you are looking for.
Check the on-Line Yellow Pages?

Daryl - the service did operate back in the late 1980's - we were at
Seisia the night that they were loading freight which included a car and camper trailer. It also takes supplies into Aurukun. Do not know if they start on the east coast and travel around the cape. Could always start at
Cairns with a travel agent who may be able to point you in the right direction. We came
home from the cape via Musgrave, Pormpuraaw, Kowanyana to
Karumba - tracks do exist between these
places although you might have to locate a good map to find them.

Daryl N,
After having a trawl through Google i came up with
Perkins Shipping based in
Darwin. 1800 640 079
Weipa-(07) 4069 7309
Karumba-(07) 4745 9333
Apparently they run a service from
Karumba to
Weipa. Probably a barge.
Cheers,
Bros.

At the same time in 2003 four families 8 adults and 9 children with four fully loaded 4WD's travelled on the "Trinity Bay" from
Cairns to Seisea for four days and then drove down the Cape.
For anyone contemplating a trip on the Cape then give Seaswift a look I am sure you won't be disappointed
I hope the trip down the West coast is as good for you.

The west coast is very flat, you are flat out seeing any land at all.
Weipa receive all there fresh veg etc for Woolies by barge. In the event the barge does'nt run they have to fly in certain lines of fresh.
